LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Allen Craig drove in Shane Robinson with the go-ahead run in the seventh inning, and the St. Louis Cardinals extended their NL wild-card lead over Los Angeles to two games with a 2-1 victory over the struggling Dodgers on Thursday night. Lance Lynn (15-7) pitched six innings of five-hit ball to earn his first win since July 27 for the Cardinals, striking out seven in the All-Star's return to the rotation after a bullpen demotion. Skip Schumaker had an early run-scoring single as St. Louis (76-68) snapped its three-game skid and a four-game road losing streak with a nail-biting win over the Dodgers (74-70), who have lost four straight. Adrian Gonzalez had an RBI double in the Dodgers' seventh loss in eight games.

Josh Beckett Summed Up The Dodgers 2012 Season To Date Perfectly Last Night

While utterly terrible and pathetic, Josh Beckett “grounding” into a 9-3 putout sorta summarizes the 2012 Dodgers season so far quite well when you think about it. The apparent sharp single into right represents the team’s fast start, Beckett’s horrid wheels represents the team treading water with mediocre players and miracle replacement production for a ...

Jon Jay rocks argyle socks during game

St. Louis Cardinals second baseman Jon Jay revealed his red-and-black argyle socks during Wednesday night's game at Petco Park against the San Diego Padres. Your browser does not support iframes. Unusual fashion choice for a baseball player, but at least they match the team colors. Video via MLB.com. Visit us at http://holdoutsports.com. Follow @HoldoutSports

Cruz's blast keeps LA's playoff hopes alive

LOS ANGELES -- The heat lingered over Dodger Stadium Friday night much like the lingering Dodgers slump. On an unseasonably warm night, Los Angeles wanted to know only one thing: Are the Dodgers still in the postseason race or are they out? Entering Friday night, the Dodgers were just 6-12 since what is now simply known as The Trade that sent Adrian Gonzalez, Josh Beckett, Carl...

Lilly to undergo shoulder surgery

Thats officially it for left-hander Ted Lilly this season, not that the announcement that hell have season-ending surgery next Friday came as a shock to anyone. Lilly hasnt pitched since May 23, his sore shoulder never responding to conservative treatment. Now hes scheduled to have arthroscopic surgery on his left shoulder, in what Dodgers trainer Sue Falsone said should not lead...

Dodgers tighten up wild-card race

Luis Cruz wasn't a significant piece of the Los Angeles Dodgers' roster until third baseman Jerry Hairston Jr. went down for the rest of the season in mid-August with inflammation in his left hip. Since then, the four-year veteran has done more than his share to help keep his team in the postseason hunt. Cruz greeted St. Louis reliever Edwin Mujica with a first-pitch, three...

Is Carlos Beltran starting to break out of his slump?

Much has been made about how bad Carlos Beltran has been the second half of the year for the St. Louis Cardinals. Since the All-Star break, where Beltran participated in the Home Run Derby and started for the National League in right field, Beltran has been mediocre at best.  Beltran is hitting just .219 with nine home runs and only 22 RBI's. Beltran has clearly struggled...

N.L. Wild Card Race: Can Chris Carpenter Save Struggling St. Louis Cardinals From Collapse?

The St. Louis Cardinals know what it is like to make a late season run to catch the National League wild card leader during the final month of the regular season. They did it last year on their way to catching the Atlanta Braves in the final game of the year. That propelled them on to winning the 2011 World Series. But in 2012, could the Cardinals be the team who blows...

Beltran stuck in frustrating slump

SAN DIEGO Watching Carlos Beltran struggle the past two months has become an unfriendly reminder for Cardinals manager Mike Matheny of just how tough hitting Major League pitching can be. Matheny, a career .239 hitter in 13 big league seasons, had several stretches similar to the one his All-Star right fielder currently finds himself in. Beltran is hitting just .199 since in 58...

Yadier Molina Appreciation GIF

I don’t really know what to add to this. Just watch and try to keep your jaw closed. Yadier Molina is amazing.

Well That Was Fun

That just happened, huh? In the midst of final three weeks of the season, the Cardinals started the penultimate road trip of 2012 by getting swept. Against a team 9 games under .500. At least they were, until the Cardinals came to down.Yup. The Fathers whipped off their work belt and went to town on the bare asses of the feckless basballers we call Cardinals. Massively ineffective...

Missed opportunities cost Dodgers vs. D-backs

PHOENIX (AP) -- Justin Upton and Gerardo Parra hit consecutive RBI singles to support Trevor Cahill's seven strong innings, and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 3-2 on Wednesday night. The Dodgers, losers of six of their past seven, squandered a chance to pull even with St. Louis for the second NL wild-card spot. The Cardinals lost 3-2 to San Diego earlier...

Don Mattingly set to return next season

The Dodgers are clinging to hope, that they can claim the last wild card spot, as they sit only one game back of the Cardinals. But as GM Ned Colletti begins to prepare for next season and beyond, he told Mark Saxon of ESPN Los Angeles among others that manager Don Mattingly will return next season. Mattingly has one year left on his deal, but reports have surfaced that once Colletti...
