St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Brian Tallet has been diagnosed with polycystic kidney disease.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported Monday that team doctors discovered cysts on Tallet's kidney while performing a CT scan on a strained intercostal muscle this weekend.
"Right now, my case is that all of my levels are normal and everything is fine with them, but I've got cysts in the kidneys," Tallet told the newspaper. "Now, it's just a matter of maintaining the levels that I'm at by drinking more water."
Tallet is expected to be out until the end of this month. The lefthanded specialist is 0-1 with two holds and an 8.31 ERA in 13 innings this season.
