Carlton Fisk is the one of the greatest catchers in Major League history.
At the time of his retirement, he held the all-time records for home runs (351) and games played (2,226) by a catcher and won a Gold Glove after his rookie season in 1972.
Jarrod Saltalamacchia hasn’t accomplished quite as much during his brief time with the Red Sox. In addition to hitting just .208, he’s throwing out just 24% of attempted base stealers and has been charged with three passed balls.
The Sox attempted to buy low on the former first round pick at last year’s trade deadline, but through nearly 25 games in 2011, it hasn’t been a rewarding acquisition.
In an exclusive interview with FenwayFaithfulReport.com, Fisk offered the following thoughts on Saltalamacchia’s inconsistencies and his future in Boston:
