Well, late last night I went to bed knowing the Pirates acquired catcher Chris Snyder from Arizona, but without knowing who the Bucs were giving up. This morning, we’ve learned that it’s D.J. Carrasco, Bobby Crosby, and Ryan Church.
That’s right, folks. The Pirates just traded away Ryan Church.
Obviously, I have absolutely no problem giving up Crosby and Church (addition by subtraction, anyone?) so this deal comes right down to Chris Snyder for D.J. Carrasco. I really like Carrasco – he wears awesome stirrups, he’s a cool guy, he comes out of the pen and usually pitches very well in pretty much any situation, and he was under club control for a few more years. I was pretty surprised to read that the Bucs gave him up as part of this deal at first.
Look at it this way, though. If the Pirates were going to deal Carrasco (which was known to be a definite possibility), they weren’t going to get much more than an average big-league player (Snyder) bac...
