PROJECTED STARTER Jamey Carroll, .290 BA, 17 RBIs, 10 steals, 52 runs in 2011 Carroll might be 38 years old, but the Twins are counting on him to hold down the every-day shortstop role this season. Signed as a free agent this winter, Carroll will be entering his 11th year in the majors. Despite his age, Carroll still played a career-high 146 games last season with the Los Angeles Dodgers. "I think if you're playing that many games, you must be doing something right, so hopefully that'll be the case," Carroll said earlier this spring when asked if he thinks he can match that number of games in 2012. Minnesota will be Carroll's fifth team of his career, as he's also played for the Washington Nationals, Colorado Rockies and Cleveland Indians. He's spent more time at second base throughout his career 507 games there, compared to just 207 at shortstop. But the Twins see him as the starting shortstop, with Alexi Casilla starting at second base. While 24-...

Twins hope Casilla solidifies second base spot

PROJECTED STARTER Alexi Casilla, .260 BA, 4 triples, 15 SBs, 21 RBIs, 52 runs in 2011 Second base hasn't exactly been a position of consistency over the past several years for the Minnesota Twins. They haven't had the same starting second baseman on Opening Day since 2006-07, when Luis Castillo held down the job for two straight years. Since then, a combination of Brendan...

2012 season preview: Minnesota Twins

Nothing that could have went right for the 2011 Minnesota Twins really did. The lowlights of this awful season were their two star players, Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau, each missing a huge chunk of time. No matter what happens in 2012 for the Twins, it'll pretty much depend on Mauer and Morneau to stay healthy. If they can each player in 130-140 games, the Twins could be much...

2012 Fantasy Baseball Player Profile: Ryan Doumit

Author: Andrew SwansonOpening day 2012 will be an interesting time for Ryan Doumit as it will be his first opening day in anything other than a Pirate uniform. Tsuyoshi Nishioka – A Revisionist History

In a move that was somehow simultaneously surprising and not, Tsuyoshi Nishioka was sent down to Triple-A Rochester Monday, and to say it’s been a tumultuous year for the man would be an understatement. No, this isn’t to evoke images of sympathy for a man who made $3 million for especially bad baseball last year, and is due a minimum of $6.25 million more. But let’s consider...

After the most disappointing season in franchise history - a 63-99 injury-filled embarrassment - the Twins are back to the role they're used to playing. They're the underdogs again, only this...
