Out of all of the bizarre injuries we've written about this winter, none of them have taken place on the field...until now. Miami Marlins first baseman Casey Kotchman cut the ring and middle fingers on his right hand when he grabbed a pop up machine that was falling over. The injury required four stitches, and Kotchman doesn't know when he'll be able to play following the injury, Kotchman said he was “trying to be a gentleman to the machine and try not to throw it down on the ground. It sounds like my teammates would have been happy if the drill was over and the machine got broke.” The injury occurred when Kotchman grabbed the wheel of the machine. “The wheel was kind of cutting my finger,” Kotchman said. “I guess instead of hitting it over I held onto it and kind of picked it up and it just kept slicing. “I didn’t even realize it was bleeding at first. When I walked back to first base, ok it is bleeding.” Is this real life? Casey Kotchman, welcome to the Miami circus. Kotchman is in camp on a minor league deal trying to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster of the Marlins, who might be without Logan Morrison, their projected starter at first base, at the beginning of the year due to knee surgery in September.
