Found October 14, 2013 on Fox Sports:
You know the old saying: Don't assume, because you make ... well, wrong assumptions. Didn't you just figure that the Yankees want Alex Rodiguez's 211-game doping suspension to be upheld by Major League Baseball, so not only will they be free of the A-Rod Circus -- but also so they would also see his $25 million salary come off the payroll, a big boost as the Yanks try to get under the $189 million MLB luxury-tax threshold? It turns out you and everybody else was wrong. Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said his preference would be to have Rodriguez back with the team next season. "If it comes down to, would we want the player we signed to be playing that position without any problems? Absolutely, no question about that," Cashman said on ESPN Radio Sunday. "I think if people think there's some sort of benefit by losing that talent, I mean, you can't replace it. It's not like, 'All right, well, Alex is gone.' If he winds up getting suspended and it's upheld, how do you replace that? It's not easy." Rodriguez's appeal may continue this week.

Yankees' Limit is Actually a Good Thing

Hal Steinbrenner's $189 million dollar mandate, which has since been downgraded from mandate to goal, might actually not be such a bad thing for the Yankees. The mandate begs the question of what is more important- winning now, or sacrificing for the future? The answer to that question is both. And that's exactly what the Yankees intend to do this offseason. They...

Alex Rodriguez has been a lightning rod for controversy in pinstripes, there’s no doubt about that.
