Frank Mattox, who had been a scout with the Mariners for 17 years, died at his Peoria, Ariz., home Sunday night.
What did he do for the Mariners? Mattox held roles at all levels of the team's scouting ranks.

Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma says he needs better control of pitches next time out
Just got done speaking to Mariners pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma, seen in photo next to interpreter Daisuke Sekiba. Iwakuma said he started off well, but did not have good enough control of his pitches in that second inning when he got hit hard and saw three runs score before the frame was halted.
Iwakuma did not record an out that inning.

Veteran Carlos Guillen, who has a long history of leg ailments, has a tight calf and has been taking treatment the past few days rather than stay on the field. He wont play in todays intrasquad but may be able to re-take the field today or Monday.

Lots of offense seen in Mariners intra-squad affair
Another Mariners intra-squad game has come and gone, this one won 7-3 by Team 2 after it fell behind 2-0 early on.
Plenty of extra-base hits today, beginning with the Franklin Gutierrez solo homer to left off Felix Hernandez at the very start of the game. That's as many home runs as Gutierrez had all of last season.

Hisashi Iwakuma to make intrasquad debut with Mariners tomorrow
Theyu just put out the list of pitchers throwing in tomorrow's intrasquad game and Hisashi Iwakuma tops the list of Team 1. Iwakuma is slotted to throw two innings atop that team's rotation, while Jason Vargas is to throw three innings for Team 2.
Vargas, you'll recall, retired all seven hitters he faced -- striking out four -- in Friday's first intrasquad affair.

Seattle manager Eric Wedge said Franklin Gutierrez appeared to suffer a pectoral muscle injury. The team is waiting for results from an MRI Gutierrez had Tuesday.
Mariners taking field for intra-squad game
Franklin Gutierrez, seen in the photo above taking BP earlier this morning, will be starting in center and batting leadoff for Team 2 today in his first spring training intra-squad action. Jesus Montero will be batting cleanup for Team 2 and catching.
