Charlie Morton undergoes Tommy John Surgery

Charlie Morton will be out until at least this time next season if everything goes perfect. Morton, 28, was 2-6 with a 4.66 ERA in nine starts this year after a breakout year where he posted a career best 3.83 ERA in 29 starts last season. If there is any good news at all to be taken out of this, it’s that Tommy John Surgery has become such a routine and technologically advanced thing, that pitchers who get it usually are more effective when they come back. But at this point, it isn’t even a definite that we will ever see Morton in a Pirates uniform again. He will be entering his 2nd arbitration year next season and is due a raise from his 2011 $2,445,000 salary. And that’s a lot of money set to go to someone who when a contract is signed, wouldn’t even be able to throw a baseball. Here’s hoping for...
