The addition of Anthony Rizzo made the Chicago Cubs from a 105 loss team to a 90-95 loss MLB team. Sure, it’s still the dregs, but bringing up the NL Rookie of the month was still good for a 10-15 game swing. How about the next top prospect out of Iowa?
Brett Jackson is now here.
The Chicago Cubs today selected the contract of outfielder Brett Jackson and recalled infielder Josh Vitters from Triple-A Iowa. Outfielder Tony Campana has been optioned to Triple-A.
Both Vitters, who will wear uniform number five, and Jackson, who will wear uniform number seven, join the first major league rosters of their professional careers and will be available for the Cubs this afternoon against the Dodgers in Los Angeles.
Vitters was selected by the Cubs in the first round (third overall) of the 2007 Draft and Jackson was selected by the Cubs in the first round of the 2009 Draft (31st overall).
Jackson, 24, joins the Cubs after batting .256 (104-for-407) with 22 doubles, 12 triples, 15 home...

The Curious Case of Josh Vitters Being Promoted
So pretty much out of nowhere yesterday, the Cubs decided to promote Brett Jackson and Josh Vitters. In a lost season, where getting the #1 draft pick is more important than winning 70 games, I'm all for going with the youth movement. Now when the Cubs were keeping Rizzo in the minors to delay his shot at free agency, TheJedi were spouting that they like their prospects to get...

The Cubs dealt away another veteran player on Sunday, sending utility man Jeff Baker to the Tigers for two players to be named.

Iowa
There isn't anyone left in Iowa to write about so lets just say Casey Coleman had a good start. Also, Esmalin Caridad should be back up in the pen. He has been very tough this year.

Trey McNutt struck out 3 and allowed 1 ER in 3 IP. I thought they would keep this guy in 1 inning situations to see how he responded to that role but if anything it seems he is getting...

Ouch.Joe Mather had a rotten night with the glove.I mean - plenty of effort, right? But all Mather will remember is Matt Kemp saying he "had a little help" with his game-winning home run that bounced off Mather's glove like a mini-trampoline and then went over the fence.Later, Mather would make another grand effort, diving at a line drive (can't...
Cubs place Matt Garza on DL
Chicago Cubs right-hander Matt Garza has been placed on the 15-day disabled list and will be shut down ''indefinitely,'' general manager Jed Hoyer said Monday.
Garza hasn't pitched since he felt stiffness in his right elbow in a July 21 start at St. Louis. An MRI of his elbow showed some irritation at the tip of a bone in what is being characterized a '&...
Cubs' Garza has elbow problem, might be out for season
The Chicago Cubs' starting rotation suffered another body blow Monday when the team announced that right-hander Matt Garza will be out indefinitely with what's described as "stress reaction" in the back of his pitching elbow. Garza has not pitched since July 21. He left his start that day with what the Cubs said was cramping in his right triceps. It's very...
Let’s play “What if”
Starlin Castro has established himself at the big league level and he's going to get better. How much so? Who really knows, but even if he never got any better, he's still an above average shortstop currently making league minimum.
Anthony Rizzo hasn't established himself as Castro has, but he's more than shown in his first couple months with the Cubs that he belongs...

Cubs Improve Sucky JV Squad With BJ And JV
Josh Vitters and Brett Jackson were called up on Sunday. Here’s what I just said on Friday when I told you to pick Vitters up, “(He) comes with high expectations simply because Cubs fans are like a 104-year-old virgin who would just love to touch the playoffs’ boobies. He has solid power and this year he’s finally taking a free pass (not dramatically, but he’s been...

Jackson, Petaluma, Storen, Cousins
Just some general observations, news, etc. on this Sunday, related to our local baseball players.
The biggest news is another local product reaching the big leagues. Today the Cubs promoted former Miramonte HS and Cal star Brett Jackson. He started today in centerfield for the Cubs against the Dodgers, hitting in the two-hole. Jackson burst onto the recruiting scene after...
Best 3 New NL Batting Stances
Nothing makes me happier than seeing Anthony Rizzo, Andrew McCutchen and Colby Rasmus switch their batting stances to something more funky. However, there are 3 players I hadn’t seen in majors before this season. They are the NL’s finest and need to be celebrated. Thank you, Dodgers, Brewers and Reds for employing these gems.
