It may not belong before Matt Garza is shipped out of the Windy City. Matt Garza (Credit: Jonathan Daniels/Getty Images) Reports are, the Chicago Cubs are looking to deal the 29-year-old right hander. David Kaplan from CSN Chicago says there is an exceptionally high asking price for Garza, according to sbnation.com. Kaplan says clubs interested in him are the Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers, Pittsburgh Pirates, Toronto Blue Jays, Los Angeles Dodgers and archrival St. Louis Cardinals, with whom the Cubs split a four game series with to close out the first half of the season. Garza is due to hit the free agent market after the season. He is 6-1 on the year with a 126 ERA+ and 1.141 WHIP. Bruce Levine from ESPN.com says the front runners in the Garza sweepstakes are the Rangers and Blue Jays. If a deal with Texas is made, it would be the second straight year the Northsiders dealt a righty to the Rangers, as in 2012 they dealt Ryan Dempster, now of the Boston Red Sox, to them. There is speculation brewing that if Garza is traded to the Rangers that the Cubs may receive highly touted prospect Mike Olt in return. The 24-year-old got his feet wet a little bit in Texas last year, but batted just .152 and drove in 5 in 16 games for the club. His name has been speculated as trade bait in the past, such as last year. It was a possibility if they were to reacquire Cliff Lee from the Philadelphia Phillies that they may have packaged Olt, but both parties remained in their respected organizations. After the 2012 season, Baseball America named him the #22 prospect in the game. If Rangers’ General Manager Jon Daniels were to acquire Garza, it would come at a most proficient time. Ace Yu Darvish is on the 15-day disabled list and other hurlers such as Matt Harrison, Neftali Feliz and Alexei Ogando are also on the shelf. The Rangers currently find themselves at 54-41, 2 games back of the Oakland Athletics for first place in the AL West, but they currently hold on to one of the two AL Wild Card spots, with the other one currently held by the Tampa Bay Rays. Kaplan reports Garza is likely to be dealt later this week.
