Groupon just went Epic. Groupon, a Chicago-based daily deal website, is currently running a deal for the ultimate Cubs fan, that allows the fan to do everything but play in the actual ball game. Specifically, the Groupon deal has the winner receiving a fully personalized Cubs uniform, a personal tour of Wrigley, hold a press conference, and press box seats. The buyer will also attend batting practice with the team, meet the players, and throw the first pitch. The cost of this "Ultimate Cubs Fan Experience"? $30,000, with 100% of the cost going to Cubs Care -- the Cubs charitable arm that donates money to local non-profits -- and the McCormick Foundation. When asked, Groupon's Darren Schwartz, thought that the idea of marrying Groupon's daily deal site with the Chicago Cubs was an ideal match,
“Chicago Cubs fans are some of the most passionate in the world and we’re thrilled to offer them this opportunity in our hometown,” said Darren Schwartz, head of Groupon’s Epic Deals. “With the entire $30,000 going to Cubs Care and the McCormick Foundation, the decision to buy has a lasting impact beyond this memorable evening.” (via Press Release)
The fan experience with the Cubs, is not Groupon's first "epic" deal. They've previously teamed up with Delta Airlines for a trip around the world, private golf lessons with Graeme McDowell, and an vacation with everyone's favorite 80's boy band -- New Kids on the Block. Groupon's Cubs experience can be found here. It is still available.
