PLAYERS: Chris Sale
TEAMS: Chicago White Sox
The Chicago White Sox couldn’t get much run support for Chris Sale Sunday afternoon. Fortunately, they didn’t need to. The young starter improved his record to 11-2 as the Sox won the series rubber match 2-1. The Sox won the third of their ten game road trip and improved to 49-39. The 2-1 score is misleading since 18 hits were given up total. The Royals managed 11 of those 18 off Sale and the score only remained low because of a few key ground balls and strikeouts. Sale (ERA 2.11) continues to prove he belongs on that mound with the way he routinely handles high-pressure situations. For instance, the Royals led off the bottom of the eighth with two singles and for a moment it looked like the Sox would lose the lead or at least end up tied. However, Sale got Lorenzo Cain to flyout and then assisted in a double play to end the inning. More Chris Sale dominance? No surprises here. The Kansas City Royals’ starter Luis Mendoza was impressive as well. Over 7 1/3 innings, he only allowed f...

Outside of Sale, White Sox have rotation problems

One question the Chicago White Sox don't have is in Chris Sale. That was again on display Sunday, as the All-Star continued to show why he is becoming the face of the starting staff, pitching eight innings and allowing just one run on 10 hits in a 2-1 win over Kansas City. The win improved Sale to 11-2, with an ERA of 2.11. As far as the rest of the starting staff, the Sox...

Ozzie Guillen rips Bryce Harper for pine tar use, being ‘unprofessional’

Those who were expecting nonstop quotes mixed in with a solid amount of controversy once Bryce Harper got called up to the big leagues have been extremely disappointed. Harper has said and done all the right things since joining the Nationals. That is, if you ask anyone besides Ozzie Guillen. The Marlins manager was furious with Harper on Sunday but would not say what had him so...

Is The White Sox Offense Sputtering? Youkilis Back To Back 0-4 Days

The Chicago White Sox just got by the Kansas City Royals by a score of 2-1 in-game three this afternoon. If someone would have told us Kevin Youkilis would have back to back days going 0-4 you probably would have suggested for them to have their heads examined. That is exactly what Youkilis did, he went 0-8 in his last 8 at bats for the White Sox. The entire Chicago line up is suffering...

Bobby Valentine Feels Kevin Youkilis Never Wanted 'To Get Over' His Controversial Comments in April

The tension between Bobby Valentine and Kevin Youkilis hasn't evaporated. Before Sunday's game against the Rays, Valentine was asked about the White Sox third baseman, who will be making his return to Fenway Park on Monday for the first time since he was dealt from Boston on June 24. The Red Sox skipper didn't shy away from the question. From his perspective, Youkilis...

Valentine: Rift was Youkilis' fault

It's no secret that Kevin Youkilis didn't get along well with Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine, a conflict that contributed to the third baseman being traded last month to the Chicago White Sox. But it didn't have to be that way, Valentine said Sunday. "I think the comment I made early, he made a big issue about and I don't think he ever wanted to get over...

Kevin Youkilis' Return to Fenway Park Should Bring Cheers, Unlike Visits From Other Former Players (Photos)

Kevin Youkilis returns to Fenway Park on Monday night and there's little doubt that Red Sox fans will be giving the former corner infielder the "Friendly Fenway" treatment. Youkilis was a fan favorite and popular among his teammates and the city of Boston. After all, he climbed through the Red Sox minor league system to become the player he is today. He walked off the...

Mets Baseball Card of the Day: Lastings Milledge

Because I’m a bitter Mets fan, the first entry in the Mets Baseball Card of the Day will be a Lastings Milledge Rookie Card: Milledge in my mind will always be the perfect example of the Mets prospect hype machine. Anyway the card design comes from one of my favorite sets, Topps Turkey Red. The cards have a painted feel to them, with a rough surface, which is why the light is...

White Sox Kevin Youkilis Goes 0 For 4 As The Royals Beat The Sox 6-3

Kevin Youkilis has been on fire all season long, he is a big reason the Chicago White Sox have a three game lead in the American League Central. When we see Kevin Youkilis go hit-less in a game it makes you wonder if the White Sox magic is about to fade or is it just a bad day for the red hot Youkilis? The White Sox still have a lot of baseball to play this season and if they are...

Aaron Cook Gives The Boston Red Sox 7 Good Innings to Beat The White Sox

Aaron Cook had a great outing last night to help his Boston Red Sox beat the White Sox 5-1. Cook gave up five hits on 97 pitches with 66 of those being strikes. He didn’t strike out anyone and did not walk a batter either. This was a solid effort by cook and the Red Sox offense helped him out. The Defense also did a great job for Cook too. The Red Sox are still 9-1/2 games back...

Youkilis avoids new Valentine barb

Chicago White Sox third baseman Kevin Youkilis refused to comment Sunday on the latest criticism from Boston Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine.

Video: Youk Makes His Fenway Return

For the first time since he was traded to the Chicago White Sox on June 24th, former Boston Red Sox fan favorite Kevin Youkilis made his return to Fenway Park on Monday night. Of course he got a single in his first at-bat after a rousing ovation from the Fenway Faithful. {flvremote}http://cdn.ianbethune.com/youkfenwayreturn.flv{/flvremote} Follow Ian on Twitter @soxanddawgs...
