Carlos Ruiz set the Phillies record for RBI in a game by a catcher with 7. Photo (AP)The Phillies struck early and often, scoring 4 off of Tommy Hanson and 2 off of Cristhian Martinez, and looked to have a comfortable 6-0 cushion headed into the bottom of the 5th. But Doc Halladay could not hold off a series of dinks and dunks until he was done in on a breaking ball gone bad to let the Braves tie the game on a 2-out Brian McCann grand slam. Jason Heyward’s 1-out, 2-run 6th inning single put the Braves ahead 8-6 and chased Halladay out of the game.Fans and beat-writers, myself included, joked throughout the night that they could turn their televisions off. Six runs would surely be enough for Halladay who had been a perfect 107-0 when given a lead of 4 runs or more. But a sweaty and exhausted Doc exited the field after surrendering 8 runs and 12 hits for the first time since August 24, 2009 against the Rays and 8 earned for the first time since May 5, 2007 against the Rangers. With ru...

The Philadelphia Phillies have placed first baseman Jim Thome on the 15-day disabled list and recalled catcher Erik Kratz from Triple-A Lehigh Valley for Wednesday night's game against Atlanta.
Thome has not played since leaving Saturday night's game with tightness on the left side of his lower back. The move was made retroactive to Sunday.
The 41-year-old Thome is hitting...
The inner-LEGO nerd in me finds this to be a fascinating new item, now available in the Majestic Clubhouse Store. Now you can field an entire team of Phillies with your old (or current?) LEGO collection with the new collection from OYO Sports Toys.
That's right, for $12.99 each you can build and assemble your very own Phillies roster, complete with bendable knees (unlike standard...
The Philly Phace Off is Philly Sports World’s new weekly Thursday feature. Every Thursday, Rob and Wayne will debate a topic. Your job is to be the jury. You read both sides and then decide who wins by voting in the Phace Off Poll. This week Rob and Wayne debate who means more to the Philadelphia Phillies: Ryan Howard or Chase Utley.
Once in a generation, a player...
In the early going this season, one of the Phillies’ Baby Aces hasn’t been very sharp. Through 5 starts with the Double-A Reading Phillies this season, Jonathan Pettibone has posted a 1-3 record with a 4.33 ERA and a .357 batting average against. In addition, Pettibone’s strikeout to walk ratio (13:11, in 27 innings of work) is of concern.Fresh off a solid season with...
Vance Worley of the Philadelphia Phillies is one of my friends on Facebook. This is only intended for my daily readers. I will not publish any articles unless this matter is resolved. Please, check back tomorrow morning.
This article will not be distributed because Yardbarker has limited Philadelphia Phillies storyline to only the isportsweb yard. I write this for my daily...
Roy Halladay of the Philadelphia Phillies is the cream of the NL East. What starter on the Braves also goes deep into games frequently? The Apocalyptic Horsemen Stats are in my daily coverage.

John Mayberry Jr. doubled and scored the go-ahead run in the eighth inning and the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Atlanta Braves 4-2 on Tuesday night in the first meeting of the season between the NL East rivals.
After Brandon Beachy gave up only two runs in seven innings to outlast Phillies starter Cole Hamels, the Phillies broke a 2-2 tie with two runs against left-hander Jonny...
A Note from the Author: We first learned back in early April that Pat Burrell would sign a one day contract with Philadelphia and retire as a member of the Philadelphia Phillies. It has taken till now for me, a lifelong Phillies’ fan, to completely analyze how I feel about this honor. Pat “The [...]
Ty Wigginton fist bumps Juan Samuel after driving in two runs in the fourth inning. (AP) Late hits by a slumping John Mayberry, Jr. and a scoreless three innings by the bullpen helped propel the Phillies to a 4-2 victory over the Braves in Atlanta tonight. In a game in which Cole Hamels was only able to go six innings, leaving a tie ball game in his wake, the fate of the...
After a 4-2 win over the Braves on Tuesday night, the Phillies felt good entering Wednesday’s game. The offense was finally starting to score runs and they would have ace pitcher Roy Halladay on the mound. Even better, they took a 6-0 lead into the 5th inning.
Placido Polanco just kept getting hits and Shane Victorino road his coat tails. Then Laynce Nix smashed a bases-clearing...
Waking up this morning still in some awe over the performance of Joe Blanton yesterday. After 400 pitches were thrown Wednesday night in an extra innings offensive explosion, Blanton managed to get through a complete game on fewer than 90 pitches. While Blanton deserves a bunch of credit for doing what he did, you have to pit some blame on the Braves as well. No pitcher, no matter...
