BOSTON –– Chipper Jones' farewell tour has been recognized in Boston. After announcing that 2012 would be his final season –– during spring training –– the Braves third baseman was honored before Saturday's game. Red Sox owner John Henry and chairman Tom Werner presented Jones with a No. 10 in a pregame tribute. The No. 10 plaque was off the Green Monster scoreboard. During the brief ceremony, the trio posed for pictures right in front of home plate while the crowd at Fenway Park enthusiastically cheered for Jones. Through 19 seasons, Jones has belted 459 home runs, 1,586 RBIs and...

Chipper Jones isn't letting go of baseball without taking a few pieces of the big leagues with him. As the Braves star goes through his final season in Major League Baseball, teams have been honoring him with all kinds of accolades and memorabilia. Hear what Jones had to say about his final trip to Fenway Park and other places, plus his advice for young players, on Red Sox First Pitch.
This is exactly what Jair Jurrjens needed.
In turn, this is exactly what the Braves wanted to see from Jurrjens.
And it would have been tough to find anyone who could have predicted this kind of a performance from a guy who spent the past eight weeks in minor league exile.
I thought he would get rocked and rolled and be gone by the third inning.
But there was Jurrjens on Friday...
If the Atlanta Braves want to challenge the Washington Nationals and New York Mets for the NL East lead, they need Eric Hinske to contribute both as a pinch hitter and an occasional spot starter. Hinske hopes that a mechanical adjustment has put an end to what was one of the worst stretches at the plate in his major league career. The 34-year-old utility player has been a career...
Jair Jurrjens made an impressive return to the majors by limiting the Boston Red Sox to one run and three hits, leading the Atlanta Braves to a 4-1 win on Friday night.
Jurrjens, an All-Star last season when he topped the Braves with 13 wins, worked 7 2-3 innings and left after allowing an RBI double by Daniel Nava that drove in Will Middlebrooks, who led off the eighth with a double...
Livan Hernandez has not been around forever. It only seems that way. The 37-year-old right-hander found yet another team to play for when the Milwaukee Brewers signed him to a deal for the remainder of the season. Hernandez was released a few days earlier by the Atlanta Braves. Though Hernandez has been a starting pitcher for most of his career, the Brewers plan on using him...
The Game Score statistic was developed by Bill James as a way of giving pitchers a score for each game they pitch. A closer look at how the stat is calculated will be discussed later in this post. The statistic is a way to rate starting pitchers. The average starting pitching Game Score is 49 to 51 (depending on the year). This season's league average is 51. R.A. Dickey currently...
This was very cool. Thanks to @Fireflies712 for making a video of it (while I just took a bootleg picture of the TV with my phone, haha)!
Thanks, FSS! I really did enjoy hearing Paul Byrd on Braves Live today. He is very well-spoken and didn't fill the time with cliches like so many ballplayers do. ;)
BOSTON -- Jair Jurrjens' return to the big leagues was a well-timed, splendid performance. Recalled from the minors to make his first major league start since late April, Jurrjens pitched a solid 7 2/3 innings, and the Atlanta Braves halted Boston's five-game winning streak Friday night with a 4-1 victory over the Red Sox. Jurrjens, an All-Star last season, missed all...

Clay Buchholz (7-2) is scheduled to start for the Red Sox against Braves probable starter Mike Minor (3-5). Calling the action will be Brian Anderson (play-by...

The Brewers have agreed to sign Livan Hernandez, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reports. It appears Hernandez will initially help out in the bullpen but will be able to help out in the rotation if need.
Hernandez was released by the Braves earlier this week after he was designated the week prior.
Hernadez signed with the Braves in March after he was released by the Astros. He posted...
