Today Chris Johnson drove in 6 runs (and two homers) to power the ‘Stros to a sweep of the Mets in their last series in Houston before the Astros become an AL squad.  Today wasn’t pretty, and I don’t think I’d ever had expected to say this going into the season, but this team is really going to miss Mike Pelfrey until Chris Young is ready for action.

Chris Schwinden was completely bombed today, again.  Chris Young can’t get back soon enough.  Schwinden gave up 5 runs in 4 innings, including two homers to Johnson, that put the Mets into a whole that they could not possibly climb out of against an effective Wandy Rodriguez.  Even if Young isn’t ready any time soon, I find it very hard to believe that Schwinden will get another start any time soon.

The only positive thing to take from today was Andres Torres RBI single, I guess.  This has been a series to forget for the Mets on all fronts, but as it’s been said before this is a long season, and this season will be defined by the Mets ability to keep the winning streaks longer than the losing streaks.

The Mets will now come home to the Citi on Friday night to try to stop this losing streak against the Arizona Diamondbacks.  The Mets will send Dillon Gee to the hill, while the D’backs will counter with Wade Miley.

Astros' Johnson finally hits first homer of season -- then adds another

Houston Astros third baseman Chris Johnson called it the best game of his professional career, and it's hard to argue with that. Johnson went off Wednesday, homering twice as part of a 4-for-4 day, ending a homerless drought that went back 104 at-bats to last year. Johnson hit a three-run shot off New York Mets rookie Chris Schwinden in the second inning and a two-run blast...

Johnson, Astros complete sweep against Mets

HOUSTON (AP) -- Chris Johnson had four hits, homered twice and drove in a career-high six runs to back up another solid outing by Wandy Rodriguez, and the Houston Astros beat the New York Mets 8-1 on Wednesday to complete a three-game sweep. The win gave Houston its first series sweep of the season and first series win since the opening three games. Johnson's first homer of...

Wonder If Johan Santana Regrets Signing With Mets?

This time, it was the Mets’ bullpen that betrayed Johan Santana. The Mets finally scored runs for him, but the bullpen blew a four-run lead in the eighth inning with Tim Byrdak serving a grand slam homer to Todd Helton. Another no-decision for Santana, who is still looking for his first victory since September 2010. I know Santana doesn’t regret the money, but there are times...

Mets Home-Grown Talent Overrated

Much has been made in the media about the abundance of home-grown players starting on a regular basis in the Mets lineup.  From Tejada to Murphy, Thole to Duda, and Ike to Kirk, up and down the entire lineup features players drafted and groomed by the Mets minor league system.  It kind of brings a feel good story for us long suffering Mets fans.  It definitely makes it a little...

Reaction: Mets got Swept by the Astros

If you didn’t see, the New York Mets got swept by the Astros this week in Houston. It was a three game series, which was three games too long. The Mets made guys like Bud Norris, Jed Lowrie, and Chris Johnson look like flat out all-stars. Even Brett Myers came in and made the Mets look silly. Also, I never want to see Chris Schwinden on SNY ever again. He is just god awful. Nothing...

Tommy John Tuesday: Mike Pelfrey To Have Surgery Today

Mets pitcher Mike Pelfrey will undergo Tommy John surgery today on his right (pitching) elbow. Pelf suffered a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament during his start last week. Pelfrey's injury will really change the landscape for Mets pitching. Chris Schwinden will start tomorrow, but he has been less than impressive in his 5 professional starts dating back to last...

Mets Won't Win Them All

It's crazy what we do to ourselves on a nightly basis. We hang on every pitch, RBI opportunity, and managerial decision. We are die hard Mets fans, but sometimes we need to remember that hindsight is always 20/20 and the Mets won't win every game.Series like the one the team is in now against the Houston Astros are frustrating. Going into the three game set, the Mets had...

MMO Farm Report: Buffalo Prevails While St. Lucie Keeps Rolling

22-4? The St. Lucie Mets are a regular riot... Buffalo 5, Syracuse 2 The purple skies beyond Coca-Cola Field flashed with bursts of lightning south of the Queen City. Between the lines in Buffalo, the Herd struck just as fast for a victory over the rival Chiefs. The Bisons made quick work of a two-run deficit to score a 5-2 win over Syracuse from Coca-Cola Field. A 23-minute rain...

Mets Minor League Notes: Best Mark In The Majors

The Mets are the only team that have a winning record in the majors and have EVERY minor league affiliate over .500. Buffalo (AAA) is 14-10 and in second place in the North Division in the International League. Binghamton (AA) is 12-11 and in third place in the Eastern League’s Eastern Division. St. Lucie (A) has the best record in the Florida State League at 20-4. Savannah (A...

3 Up & 3 Down: Wanted Dead Or Alive Edition

If 3 & 3 were to borrow a page from the long running children’s show Sesame Street, this edition would be sponsored by the letters P & U. Those two letters sum up how the Mets performed in this three game series. We were so hard pressed to come up with 3 “Ups”, our guys from SNY make their season debut in that category. 3 Up: 1) R.A. Dickey: I honestly thought R.A...

Greener Pastures On The Horizon For Buffalo?

The off season in some sports has, at times, adopted the moniker ‘silly season’.  It’s that time of year when the dust kicks up from coast to coast, team names change, affiliations change, team locations change.  While more prevalent in the minor league hockey world, the silly season affects minor league baseball as well. This upcoming offseason may prove to be an interesting...

The Real Astros

Mets Blob strongly feels that without the skintight, multicolor uniforms, the team that plays in Houston has no business calling themselves the Astros. Real Astros look like the two far out dudes pictured above. Clearly, Nolan Ryan is trying his Texas best to look un-gay in that getup but he's about two bourbons away from reaching back and working JR Richard with his hand.The...

Astros 6, Mets 3

HOUSTON -- Jed Lowrie and Chris Snyder homered early, and the Houston Astros got another quality outing from left-hander J.A. Happ to make the lead last for a 6-3 win over the New York Mets on Tuesday. Snyder blasted a three-run shot to the Minute Maid Park railroad tracks atop left field to give the Astros a 5-0 lead with no outs in the second inning. It was Snyder's first...
