Catcher Chris Snyder sustained an injury in the second inning of last night’s extra inning victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The extent of the injury was not immediately known, but the Pirates have officially announced that Snyder suffered a herniated disc in his back. The 30-year-old is scheduled to have surgery tomorrow morning. He was placed on the disabled list today, but the team does not have an expected timetable for recovery. Word around Pirate circles is that Snyder could very likely be out for the rest of the season. This is a huge blow to the team for various reasons. For one, catcher Ryan Doumit is only beginning his rehab assignment. He is on his way to the Class A Bradenton Marauders according to Jenifer Langosch, and is aiming for a return to the Pirates by late July. This leaves the Pirates with Dusty Brown and Wyatt Toregas at catcher for the MLB team, at least until Jason Jaramillo returns from injury, which will not be soon. The two players have less...
