Friedrich impressed in his debut. With the season hanging in the balance, the Colorado Rockies were forced to lean on a player who had never had his name on a Major League lineup card. With as much pressure as can come in a early May start, Friedrich's debut went off without a hitch. The former first round draft pick, who as late as last season was labeled a bust, pitched six strong innings, giving up just two runs, only one of which was earned. In those six frames he gave up five hits. The most important stat, however, was the strikeout to walk ratio. The lefty struck out a Rockies-season high seven batters, and walked only one.The simple fact is that the Rockies have been struggling. A problem that could be brushed off as early season struggles was suddenly thrust into the spotlight when the starting pitchers blew leads of five runs and six runs on consecutive nights. That, coupled with their expected ace, Jhoulys Chacin only missing out on a trip back to the minors because of an ...

Colorado Rockies offense nowhere to be found as Jim Tracy manages team out of win again

The Rockies lost another one thanks to Jim Tracy.,It has become an extremely common occurrence. In the top of the 7th inning, in a 2-1 game, Jim Tracy elected to allow pitcher Alex White to lead off the frame. White was pitching well in his 2012 debut. He had given Tracy six strong innings and kept his team in the ballgame. However, he was as much of a guaranteed out as it gets in...

What’s Up With Trevor Story?

When seeing Colorado Rockies shortstop prospect Trevor Story in person, very little about his all-around game strikes one as sexy beyond his current triple slash line of .283/.395/.535. However, as a teenager in the South Atlantic League, Story’s numbers are on par with the best middle infield prospects in the game which has led to many questions about his ceiling and comparisons...

Rockies get a much needed victory

The Colorado Rockies managed to win a game Wednesday, besting the San Diego Padres 6-2 and snapping a five game losing streak. It was an important win even this early in the year as the Rockies face a stretch that has them on the road for another week and six games.

Today's Starter: Christian Friedrich

The Colorado Rockies enter Wednesday last in the National League in team ERA and with just one more victory (12) than the San Diego Padres (11). Starting pitching has been the Rockies downfall as injuries and ineffectiveness have kept the third best offense in the N.L. from notching more wins.

White, Friedrich to join rotation

The Rockies are turning to youth in an attempt to stabilize a rotation that has been highly unreliable and a major weakness. Right-hander Alex White was activated to start Tuesday at San Diego. And left-hander Christian Friedrich will be activated to start there Wednesday in his major league debut. They will pitch the final games in a series that began with a 3-2 loss to the Padres...
