All it took was one throw to catch the attention of everyone who was at Friday night's exhibition game and make them wonder, who is this guy? The zip of the ball could be heard by every player on the field. The throw was made by Red Sox prospect catcher Christian Vazquez.  The #16 prospect in the organization according to MLB.com, Vazquez showed that he had big-league skills when he got rid of the ball to tag up Twins' Trevor Plouffe in just 1.82 seconds. You just can't ask anybody to be much faster than that. Sox manager John Farrell had plenty of praise for the 22-year-old with the rocket arm: "Just outstanding feet, quick release, plenty of arm strength and accuracy," Farrell said after the Red Sox's 2-0 loss. "This is probably the fourth guy he's cut down in Spring Training and all of the same variety. He's confident when he throws a baseball, and that shows in the accuracy and the quickness with which he releases the ball."  "...

However, his recovery has gone slower than expected, leaving the Red Sox considering potential alternatives, according to Rob Bradford of WEEI.com. Larry Walker Thinks He ‘Saw Satan’ in Alfredo Aceves’ Eyes While Restraining Pitcher During WBC Brawl

Alfredo Aceves comes off as a scary dude. Not only does Aceves throw gas when he’s on the mound, but he also has a rather intimidating aura about him, which is enough for most guys to refrain from picking a fight with the Red Sox right-hander. Canadian outfielder Tyson Gillies apparently didn’t get the memo, though. Or perhaps the Phillies minor leaguer has a death wish. Either...

Alfredo Aceves takes two punches to the face in WBC fight (VIDEO)

Leave it to Alfredo Aceves to be part of some controversy, and now on a global stage. During the World Baseball Classic's Mexico v. Canada game at Chase Field in Arizona a full two-team brawl broke out. When Canada's Rene Tosoni was hit by a pitch from Mexico's Arnold Leon, the batter made hit way towards to the mound then all hell broke loose. Red Sox pitcher Alfredo...

Vote: Who Should Fill in for David Ortiz as the Red Sox’ Designated Hitter?

It’s still early yet in the spring, and already the Red Sox are dealing with a couple major injury headaches. While shortstop Stephen Drew is still suffering concussion symptoms, the even bigger worry for Boston is Big Papi. The Sox’ designated hitter basically missed the last two months of 2012 with an issue with his Achilles heel, and now it’s both heels that are said to...

Jackie Bradley Jr's ONLY hope for a roster spot (#KEEPJBJ)

Let’s all be honest for a moment and agree that Jackie Bradley Jr. (JBJ) is playing out of his mind this spring. Due to his outstanding performances on the field there’s a movement among many in Red Sox Nation to have JBJ become a permanent member of the Red Sox 2013 roster. Since we’re all being honest I’ll admit I’m one of those “people” that want JBJ with the Sox...

Welcome to Boston Shane Victorino, welcome to the media market that will make you feel smaller than an ant, welcome to a city with huge expectations. Newcomer to the Red Sox this year is 9 year MLB veteran Shane Victorino will be expected to be the patroller of right field in Fenway for the next 3 years. To warn everyone I am a huge fan of Victorino, I graduated from the same high...

Alfredo Aceves Explains His Role in Mexico-Canada Brawl, Why He Tangled With Tyson Gillies

Alfredo Aceves returned to Spring Training from the World Baseball Classic on Monday and sounded more like a Bruins enforcer than a Red Sox reliever. The right-hander admitted the tournament was “pretty cool,” despite the team’s shortcomings, according to MLB.com. But, as predicted, the media turned its focus on the dust-up between members of Aceves’ Mexican team and Team...

John Lackey Still Working Out Kinks, But Right-Hander’s Stuff Improving As Opening Day Inches Closer

John Lackey ran into some third-inning trouble and wasn’t exactly overpowering, but the right-hander once again took another step forward in his fourth start of the spring on Sunday. Lackey allowed two runs on four hits, walked one and struck out two while throwing 66 pitches in 3 2/3 innings. With the outing, the 34-year-old has now twirled 9 2/3 innings this spring, and he...

Hanrahan continues up and down spring training

It is no small feat to be a successful closer in baseball. Every closer has their highs and lows of a season. Hopefully Red Sox closer Joel Hanrahan is currently leaving his struggles in the past. The spring has been a rough spring training for Joel who has been hit hard quite often. In his fifth outing of the spring Hanrahan finally had a 1-2-3 inning striking out 2. During his...

Red Sox 6, Rays 2

The Boston Red Sox will shut down designated hitter David Ortiz for several days with sore left heel, announcing the news after Sunday's 6-2 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. Manager John Farrell received the MRI results during the game. He expects Ortiz to be out for five to seven days because of inflammation. Ortiz had MRI tests done on both heels Saturday for comparative purposes...

BREAKING NEWS: David Ortiz out a week with heel inflammation

The information that we have all been wondering about just came back from Boston. David Ortiz had MRIs on both heels to find out why he has been struggling to run this Spring. Turns out, the MRI showed heel inflammation in both heels. The good news is that the inflammation is not related to the Achilles, but the Red Sox want Ortiz to stop all activities until the heels heal. Opening...

WBC Brawl Will Result in No MLB Suspensions for Alfredo Aceves, Oliver Perez, Five Others Ejected

You know what they say, “What happens in the World Baseball Classic, stays in the World Baseball Classic.” Or is it “The first rule of the World Baseball Classic is don’t talk about Fight Club?” Seven players were ejected in Saturday’s WBC brawl, but that’s the only punishment they will face. The WBC announced “discipline will not be imposed beyond [Saturday's...
