In an expected move, left handed reliever Clay Rapada has been told that he will start the season on the Yankees Opening Day roster, according to Mark Feinsand of the NY Daily News.
Rapada, a 31-year-old with a career OBP of .153 and an OPS of .472 against left handed hitters, had a strong spring training, but was helped out with a few timely injuries. The injury to Cesar Cabral, who broke his elbow, was probably the most significant as the two battled to be the Yankees second lefty out of the pen. The Boone Logan back issue probably didn’t hurt things either even if it looks like he’ll be able to avoid the DL.
Now that Rapada and David Phelps have both made the team and Logan is expected to avoid the DL, it looks like the Yankees Opening Day roster is set. These moves haven’t been made official yet though.
