Marlins' season may hinge on health of ace Johnson

Marlins ace Josh Johnson says he'll be battling butterflies next week and worried about hitting a spectator with the ball. He won't be pitching; he's playing golf in the Honda Classic pro-am. Johnson, who sports a 3.7 handicap, received an invitation to play next Wednesday in his first pro-am. The Marlins agreed to give him the time off, and then it will be back to...

DOs and DONTs: Miami Marlins

With the team moving into a new stadium in 2012, the Miami Marlins looked to make a big splash this offseason and build an instant contender. The additions of Jose Reyes, Heath Bell and Mark Buehrle make the team a formidable foe for the likes of the Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves. Here is a look at the Do’s and Don’ts as we run through the new and improved Marlins...

Miami Marlins videos: Reyes, Bonifacio take live BP off Zambrano

As part of Sunday’s first full squad workout, hitters got to see live pitching. Carlos Zambrano threw to a group that included Jose Reyes, Emilio Bonifacio and Hanley Ramirez. The batters were impressed. Afterward, Ramirez told Zambrano he was finishing his pitches much better than last season. Here’s a look at some of the swings Reyes and Bonifacio took off Big Z: brightcove...

Miami Marlins video: Ozzie Guillen on how many bullpen spots are up for grabs

Here’s Ozzie Guillen’s response when asked about how many bullpen jobs are available. My two cents: Figuring Heath Bell, Edward Mujica, Ryan Webb, Mike Dunn and Randy Choate are locks. Juan Carlos Oviedo would be as well, if he was here. Could be as few as one or two spots. brightcove.createExperiences();

Miami Marlins poll: Who should hit atop the order?

Manager Ozzie Guillen likely will use some combination of Jose Reyes and Emilio Bonifacio atop the batting order, but he didn’t rule out Omar Infante as the No. 2 hitter. What combination of tablesetters will maximize the club’s offensive potential? Who should hit first and second for the Miami Marlins?

Mathews suffered a heart attack and diedFriday morning at a hospital in Alexandria, La. Bob Geren Takes No. 7: Relax Met Fans

Here’s a precursor. This is yet another post that was inspired by my dear old dad, who believes it was wrong for Bob Geren to take Jose Reyes’ number. Newsflash people: Jose Reyes is a Miami Marlin. He is gone, although he contributed plenty of moments of excitement to the Mets for the past few years. You know what he didn’t produce? Playoff moments, because he and other ...

Micky Ward & John Ruiz chime in on Massachussets boxer Edwin Rodriguez

Edwin 'La Bomba' Rodriguez carrying on Massachusetts boxing tradition From John L. Sullivan and Sandy Saddler, to Rocky Marciano and "Marvelous" Marvin Hagler, Massachusetts has been home for some of boxing's all-time greats. The 21st century, though, has been somewhat lean, quantity-wise, to the point that Bay State boxers in particular, New England fighters...

Players To Target

Logan Morrison, OF, MIA – Last year was a rollercoaster for Morrison, who fought both injuries and the Marlins’ management during the season. He still managed to hit 23 home runs and 72 RBI by the end of the season. Last year’s .265 BABIP was low considering there was little change in his batted ball types. With continued development at the plate he could see a 30-homer, 90...

Miami Marlins’ Gaby Sanchez backs Ryan Braun’s denial
