After six straight losses, The Cleveland Indians bounce back from a 5-0 deficit to beat the Los Angeles Angels 6-5. The Indians’ Michael Bourn drove in the go-ahead run with a seventh-inning single. The Indians were held to just one hit through five innings but the rally all started with Nick Swisher and Mike Aviles both hit 2-run homers in the 6th inning. Aviles, entered the game due to an ejection of Asdrubal Cabrera. The seventh inning was lead off by a solo shot by Carlos Santana which tied the game. Lonnie Chisenhall drew a onw out walk and moved to second on the speedy Drew Stubb’s single. And then the hero of the day, Michael Bourn lined the first pitch to left field and gave Cleveland the go ahead run. The win went to Matt Albers (3-1) and Chris Perez bounced back from giving up a save against the Tigers on Monday to record his 18th save of the season. The comeback was much needed for the club who had been swept by the Tigers and lost the first two games to the Halos. This avoided the first 0-7 skid a home since August 27-September 2, 1990. Cleveland has also been a team full of errors as of late. On Saturday the team recorded a season high 4 errors in the loss to the Angels. Before the sweep to the division rivals, Cleveland had won 10 out of 11 games and were three games behind Detroit. Now, The Tribe sits 7 games behind Detroit for first in the AL Central and 4 games out of a Wild Card spot. This squad is very much still in the race for the postseason despite the skid this past week. There is a concern about Justin Masterson, the Tribe’s All Star Pitcher. Masty only lasted 4 1/3 innings today allowing 5 runs, 7 hits, and 4 walks. This start mimics the previous start for Masty against the Tigers where he was given the loss. Masterson allowed 7 hits and 5 runs against Detroit in 7 innings pitched. Masterson hasn’t recorded a win since August 1 against the White Sox. The Cleveland Indians look to take on the Minnesota Twins at Target Field for a three game series as they also attempt to gain some ground in the Wild Card Chase and the Division race as well.
