Boston Red Sox
The Indians earned their way into the play-offs for the first time since 2007 by winning their final ten games of the season and 15 of their final 17. They needed every single one of those wins to take the top Wild Card spot and they did, just barely beating out the Rays and Rangers. The one game Wild Card play-off will take place on Wednesday, October 2nd in Cleveland and the Indians will play the winner of tomorrow's play-in game.
With both teams winning their final game of the year, the Rays and Rangers tied for the second Wild Card spot and will play a final game in Texas to decide the winner. The game is likely to feature a pitching match-up of Matt Moore for Tampa and Martin Perez for the Rangers. This would leave David Price or Matt Garza available to face Danny Salazar and the Indians on Wednesday.
Following the Wild Card play-off, the American League Wild Card winner will go on to face the Red Sox, in Boston. On the other side, the Tigers will start the ALDS on ...

It’s the final day of the regular season for the Cleveland Indians, and there are many, many different directions IBI’s power poll could take. Before we head in that direction, let’s take a look at last week’s power poll, as it stands today.
Last week’s question was ‘Which two teams will win the American League wild-card?’ Of course, the answer to that question isn’t...
What an amazing day to be a Cleveland sports fan. It’s happened Cleveland! Your Cleveland Indians have made it to the postseason. October Here We Come! The Browns win and move to 2-2 beating the cross state rival, and The Indians clinch a playoff birth with a win over Minnesota for their 92nd victory of the season.
This post, isn’t an article. Or a typical iSportsWeb post. It...
When Scott Kazmir signed a free agent deal with the
Cleveland Indians over the winter, there were few expectations tied to the
contract. Since then, Kazmir has started 29 games for the Tribe, helping them
clinch one of the two American League Wild Card spots. Following his impressive
regular season, Kazmir told Chris Assenheimer of The Chronicle-Telegram that he
An article by Seth Pae, a hopelessly optimistic die hard Cleveland sports fan. As I lie here in my Chicago apartment, draped in a Cleveland Indians blanket, (which nicely matches my Indians pillow and sheets) I am filled with nervous energy. This is a different kind of nervous, though. It's isn't the usual Cleveland attitude of "we have a chance to FINALLY win...but...
Cleveland Indians pitcher Scott Kazmir had his worst hotel nightmare come true Thursday night while staying at the Minnesota W Hotel. Life was going well for Kazmir until he stepped onto an elevator and proceeded to head up to his room for a little rest and relaxation. It was all downhill from there. From Fox Sports Ohio: Kazmir was on the elevator at the W Hotel going to his...

The Ultimate Team
In our Tuesday morning Second Thoughts piece the IBI’s Kevin Dean asked who the Indians’ MVP is this season. As expected, the responses were all over the place.
This is of no surprise because this team truly does not have an MVP. There has been no guy that carried the team on their back all season. That...
The Cleveland Indians are guaranteed to play more than 162 games in the 2013 season. On the heels of a brilliant outing from Scott Kazmir and some of their classic two-out magic, the Indians clinched at least one game beyond today as even with a loss today they would at worst be playing baseball on Monday. After their ninth straight win, however, it’s time to make it a perfect...
The Cleveland Indians are returning to the playoffs after an incredible two-week run that saw the team rack up a ten-game winning streak, while passing both the Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays for the top wildcard spot. The Tribe will play in front of a sold-out crowd on Wednesday. Who will they play? The Texas Rangers and the Tampa Bay Rays will figure that out tomorrow...
When the Cleveland Indians brought Terry Francona on as manager last October, it seemed to signal a new approach by the organization. The bold hiring indicated that the team believed it could win right now despite what others might think.
That notion came full circle on Sunday after the Indians defeated the Minnesota Twins 5-1 to win the American League's top Wild Card spot...
The Indians are returning to the play-offs in 2013 for the first time since 2007 and it almost didn't happen. The Indians guaranteed themselves a spot by finishing a game ahead of the Rays and Rangers, but with just two less wins in any game this year and they wouldn't have made it. Considering the Indians finished the year with eleven walk-off wins, 30 one run wins and a...

The Tribe is guaranteed at least some post season baseball. “Saturday’s game, originally scheduled to be a 4:10 PM ET start, had been pushed to a 1:05 PM ET start...
Forget the tiebreaker scenarios and hopscotching across the country just in order to play one win-or-go-home wild-card game.
The Indians by beating the Twins on Sunday 5-1 behind 13 strikeouts by Ubaldo Jimenez and Nick Swisher's early-strike home run have earned two days off before playing that wild card game Wednesday night at Progressive Field at 8:07 p.m.
The Indians who...
Player of the Game
Scott Kazmir was strike out happy again today, whiffing 11 Twins in six innings. Overall, he was effective, allowing just six hits, all of which were singles. He allowed just one run during the game, allowing the Indians to cruise to victory. Prior to September, Kazmir had struck out ten batters in a game just once, but has done so three times this month, including...
Earlier in the week, speculation from Fox Sports’s Ken Rosenthal was that Ubaldo Jimenez would not start on Sunday in the regular season finale should the Indians clinch a playoff berth today. The idea being that the Indians would take their chances in a worst-case scenario with Ubaldo on the road and use a bullpen committee approach on Sunday. That does not appear to be the case...
Start off a new week with IBI's Sunday Night staple, Cleveland Sports Insiders...at 9:00 on BlogTalkRadio!!!
The Cleveland Sports Insiders will be rolling out the thunder today, as YOUR Cleveland Indians have clinched the #1 wildcard spot on the last day of the regular season.
It was no easy ride. To clinch homefield, the Indians only had to win their last ten ballgames, as...
