The Philadelphia Phillies, who are already struggling with injuries to offensive players this year, took a hit to their pitching staff today, as starter Cliff Lee was placed on the 15 day DL with a strained oblique muscle. The injury was suffered by Lee in the tenth inning of the Phillies 1-0 loss to the Giants on Wednesday. Lee threw ten scoreless innings in the game, but an equally as dominant outing from Matt Cain of the Giants led to the Phillies starter earning a no decision on the night in the eventual Phillies loss. To replace Lee in the rotation, the Phillies will start Kyle Kendrick on Monday in Arizona against the Diamondbacks. Joe Savery has been recalled from AAA Lehigh Valley to take Lee's spot on the active roster. The downgrade from Lee to Kendrick in the rotation is massive, but the Phillies are hoping that Lee will only miss a couple of starts. However, the oblique strain is on Lee's left side, which probably would affect the left-hander more than it would ...

Week In Review – Panic Sets In

Panic is setting in.  I mean, how could it not?  The Phillies are only 16 games into the season but however you look at it, .500 ball is not winning anything.  The pitching, per usual, has upheld their part of this baseball bargain but the offense has failed to cash in any of their chips this season.Like I said it is still early, and baseball season is a marathon and not a sprint...

Injuries & Bad Offense Sinking the Phillies

A little help here, please? Anybody? It may still be early in the season, but the Phillies ship is sinking fast. Is 15 games into the season a bit too early to begin yelling, “Mayday! “? Maybe not… With a 7-8 record, the Phillies are barely staying afloat in the NL East where they are tied for last place with the Marlins. Last nights’ awful 5-1 loss to the Padres combined...

The Phils will continue their road trip with four games in San Diego, hoping that their recent good fortune at Petco Park will continue.

After droping two straight games to the Giants, including  a 1-0 extra-innings lost in which they wasted a very good effort by Cliff Lee, the Phils will head on south to San Diego, hoping that their recent success there will continue, especially as they face the team presently with the worst record in the Majors. The Phils (5-7, 5th East) are coming off a pair of loses to the Giants...

Fantasy owners were dealt a blow Saturday night with the news that aces Cliff Lee (left oblique) and Daniel Hudson (shoulder) were placed on the Disabled List by their respective squads. Both were recent victims of bad luck, as Lee submitted one of the more brilliant performances of his career, throwing 10 innings of shutout baseball against the Giants only for the Phils to fall...

The Phils and Giants spent the first ten innings of last night’s game in a 0-0 pitchers’ duel between Phils’ starter Cliff Lee and Giants’ starter Matt Cain, although the later would...

NL Pitching Planner: April 23 – April 29

Here we go again.  Heading into week 4, we are starting to get a better idea as to which teams possess the good offenses (St. Louis, Atlanta, Los Angeles) and which teams do not (Pittsburgh, Cincinnati and, surprisingly, the Phillies), so those of you keen on playing the matchups, take note. Here are the two start pitchers and favorable matchups for Week 4: Two Start Pitchers No...
