Philadelphia-phillies-lee
Some quick updates on this Sunday: First, the deadline for the Phillies and Dodgers to agree on a Cliff Lee trade was 1:00 p.m. today and judging by the fact that Cliff Lee is on the mound pitching right now, he is going nowhere.  Well, at least until the deadline passes. Second, the Phillies officially gave infielder Mike Fontenot his release today.   The Phillies designated Fontenot for assignment on August 1st.  The problem with Fontenot?  It was not his .289 batting average.  Strikes against him were that he was left handed (and the Phillies now have left-handed hitters galore)  and that he was not a natural shortstop.  Kevin Frandsen can play shorstop, but when Placido Polanco returns from the disabled list Frandsen could end up back at AAA. Third, we got a lot of negative comments on our Facebook page over my Juan Pierre piece, suggesting that the Phillies let him go since he is not in their plans.  Some of the Baseball Talk Philadelphia comments included: "This l...

Dodgers claim Phillies' Lee on waivers, deal not likely

The Los Angeles Dodgers claimed Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Cliff Lee on waivers, according to CBS Sports. The teams have 72 hours to work out a trade. Otherwise, the Phillies can pull Lee back. Sources told CBS Sports that a trade is unlikely, however, because of the Phillies' high asking price. Plus, Lee has $95 million left on his contract that runs through 2015...

Reports Indicate the Los Angeles Dodgers Claimed Cliff Lee on Waivers; Phillies Claimed Some Players

The Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be the team who placed a waiver claim on Phillies pitcher Cliff Lee.  The Dodgers, of course, also put a claim on Joe Blanton and the two sides worked out a deal.  But please relax, the waiver claim means nothing. After July 31, a player must clear waivers to be traded.    Teams have the chance just once to place a player on waivers.   Players...

LOS ANGELES -- Just when it looked like the Dodgers' Ned Colletti and the Phillies' Ruben Amaro were on the fast track to becoming BBF's (Baseball Best Friends), Amaro must have had second thoughts. Indians disappointing ’12 season is emblematic of a disappointing era: Part 1/5

Follow @ClevelandDTR I’m frustrated.  Really frustrated.  Quite possibly the most frustrated I’ve ever been with the Indians.  That’s saying a lot considering how many disappointing years Indians fans have had to deal with, especially in the last five years. In 2008, the Indians looked like legitimate World Series contenders coming off of a 2007 season where they were only...
