Two days removed from a Monday Night RAW that took place in Rosemont, WWE Superstar CM Punk was on hand was at Wrigley Field Wednesday to watch the Chicago Cubs take on the Pittsburgh Pirates. His travel buddy?  WWE Divas Champ (and former on air flame) A.J. Lee.  Now, I know what you're thinking...can't CM Punk, a Chicago native and Cubs superfan take in a game with a fellow grappler?  Not in this day and age...don't these crazy kids know that this is how rumors get started? Your move, internet.

2013 Cubs Prospects in Review: Arismendy Alcantara

Before this season started, I was about as high on Arismendy Alcantara as anyone. In the Assume the Position on SS, I said that Alcantara would need to increase his walks to elevate his prospect status. I won't ruin the conclusion for you. Alcantara was signed at 17 in 2009. I don't know his signing bonus, so assume it's low. He played the DSL at 17 and was actually quite...

BREAKING: The Chicago Cubs Are Bad At Baseball

The Chicago Cubs are terrible, historically terrible at the game of baseball. Now this here team has been around for awhile. We've called Wrigley Field our home for 97 seasons, and for those there 97 seasons we've had some good teams and... well, hell mostly bad teams. But never, and I mean never have we been this bad.  Even in our darkest days, we never...

2013 Cubs Prospects in Review: Mike Olt

The Cubs acquired Mike Olt from the Rangers on July 22nd. Along with Olt, the Cubs acquired CJ Edwards, Justin Grimm and Neil Ramirez (PTBNL). Olt is 6-2, weighs 210 lbs., bats and throws right-handed. The 3rd baseman was the 22nd ranked prospect in baseball entering 2013 by both mlb.com and Baseball America. He was drafted in the 1st supplemental round in 2010 (49th overall) out...

2013 Cubs Prospects in Review: Jeimer Candelario

In continuing with the theme of Cubs' 3rd basemen, I thought I'd take a look at the crazily young (for his history) Jeimer Candelario. Jeimer has an interesting story. He was originally born in NYC, but was raised in the Dominican Republic. As a 16-year old there, he was signed to a hefty $500,000 dollar contract. From there, he was sent to DoSL as a 17-year old (where he...

2013 Cubs Prospects In Review: Gioskar Amaya

Gioskar Amaya came to the Cubs as a 2009 J2 signing. His signing bonus isn't listed anywhere, so we'll assume the Cubs didn't exactly break the bank on him. Amaya entered 2013 as a hot pick to have a breakout season in the Cubs organization. Some of the notable reports: Sickels: 11) Gioskar Amaya, 2B, Grade B-: I think he will take a huge step forward in 2013. Defense...

2013 Cubs Prospects in Review: Juan Carlos Paniagua

I'm not sure any Cub of the past 10 years is more enigmatic than Juan Carlos Paniagua (JCP for short). He's been "signed" 3 times, and the first 2, questions about his age (questions being used rather euphemistically) resulted in suspensions and deals being rescinded. He was signed the first time by the Dbacks in May 2009 (as Juan Carlos Collado) for $17,000, then...

Daniel Bard Strongly Considering Pitching in Winter Ball to Get Ready for 2014 Season

Daniel Bard‘s 2013 season has been just as disastrous as his 2012 season. It’s no wonder that he’s willing to do whatever it takes to move forward in 2014. Bard, who was claimed off waivers by the Cubs from the Red Sox earlier this month, is strongly considering pitching in winter ball to get a head start on 2014, according to the Chicago Tribune’s Mark Gonzales. Bard has...

Cubs manager Sveum waits to hear about his future

Dale Sveum doesn't know if he'll be coming back for a third season as manager of the Chicago Cubs. Sveum is under contract to return for 2014. But team president Theo Epstein has said all jobs will be evaluated after another losing season. Sveum was hired by Epstein before the 2012 season as the Cubs started a major rebuilding project. Though Chicago's minor-league...

McDonald, Arrieta lead Cubs to 4-2 win over Pirates

The only thing manager Dale Sveum hoped to change Wednesday in the Chicago Cubs' home finale was a win over Pittsburgh. “I’m not going to do anything different than we have in the two years or past managing" said Sveum whose future remains in question. "I'm just going to do what I do. The evaluation is up to them (team officials) and I don’t think four games...

Joe Girardi, on if he'll let Mariano Rivera play center: 'Absolutely'

Video: Joe Girardi "absolutely" thinking of it

Cubs win Wrigley finale, beat contending Pirates

After their 4-2 win Wednesday over the Pittsburgh Pirates, the Chicago Cubs stopped between the third-base line and their dugout to salute the fans. They tipped their caps and waved, before retreating into the home locker room for the last time this season. And they know that when they play at Wrigley Field for the first time next year, the makeup of the team could be different...

Cubs, White Sox close out losing seasons

When it comes to baseball in Chicago, this has been one awful summer. The Cubs and White Sox are poised to finish last in their respective divisions in the same year for the second time, joining the 1948 season. The 186 losses for Chicago's two major league teams through Monday night's games are the most for the city since they combined to lose 188 times during the 1980...
