Jon Garland made an impressive Colorado Rockies debut. So far, so good for the Colorado Rockies. The team is officially done with the first time through their starting rotation. Who would have guessed that the Rockies would be 4-1? The interesting thing is that none of the Rockies wins have featured the offense climbing back into it. Every win has come, in large part, because of a strong effort from the starting pitcher. On Saturday night it was newcomer Jon Garland's turn. If Garland was even slightly intimidated by pitching at Coors Field, he didn't show it. The former All-Star, making his first start since June 1st of 2011, pitched six strong innings. He gave up two earned runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out two. However, what was impressive about what Garland was the fashion in which he accomplished his strong outing. The righty recorded 11 outs via the ground ball, and only one out in the air. In his first start in a Rockies uniform, he showed that he knows the ...

Colorado Rockies continue to impress in series sweep of the Padres

Jhoulys Chacin was phenomenal on Sunday for the Rockies. It might be easy to forget, but at one point, Jhoulys Chacin was an extremely highly touted prospect coming up through the Colorado Rockies system.Chacin made his debut in July of 2009 and showed potential. He had a biting slider and a changeup that dropped off of the table. Chacin struggled with command, but those who watched...

Rockies 6, Padres 3

Jon Garland threw six sharp innings in his first appearance in almost two years and Michael Cuddyer drove in four runs, helping the Colorado Rockies to a 6-3 win over the San Diego Padres on Saturday night. Garland (1-0) hardly showed any signs of rust in his first big league start since June 1, 2011. He had season-ending shoulder surgery a month later. The procedure also kept him...

Rockies 9, Padres 1

Dexter Fowler hit an early two-run homer and Jhoulys Chacin pitched effectively into the seventh inning, helping the Colorado Rockies to a 9-1 win over San Diego on Sunday for their first sweep of the Padres at Coors Field in 10 years. Wilin Rosario broke open a tight game with a three-run homer in the seventh as the Rockies improved to 5-1, their best start since 1995 when the...

Minor Accomplishments: Week 1

A year ago, Nolan Arenado was entering the 2012 season with loads of hype. Minor League production expectations were enormous, and most folks around baseball were already penciling the young 3B into the Rockies' mid-season lineup. But a slow start at Double-A and a concerning lack of over-the-wall power quickly put an end to those 2012 Arenado arrival fantasies. The 21-year...

Rockies 5, Padres 2

Wilin Rosario and Dexter Fowler homered, helping Jeff Francis and the Colorado Rockies beat the San Diego Padres 5-2 Friday in a festive home opener at Coors Field. Francis (1-0) was ahead of batters all afternoon as he scattered five hits over six sharp innings. The soft-throwing lefty nearly became the first Rockies starter to eclipse the 100-pitch mark in 106 games, but was pulled...

Rockies-Giants Preview

The Colorado Rockies are off to one of the best starts in team history but could have trouble keeping it going in San Francisco. The Giants' Madison Bumgarner has performed well in recent outings against Colorado and will try to build on a splendid season debut in Monday night's series opener. Having won five straight, Colorado (5-1) is close to matching the franchise-best...

Season Preview: Colorado Rockies

The Rockies have fallen on hard times; they are having problems developing pitching, they flirted with a 4 man rotation with inning caps, and the face of their franchise can’t stay healthy. Can much else go wrong? Key Losses: Jason Giambi, 1B (Indians, Free Agent) Guillermo Moscoso, RHP (Royals, Waivers) Zach Putnam, RHP (Cubs, Waivers) Matt Reynolds, LHP (Diamondbacks, Trade...
