Found September 20, 2012 on Rockies Review:
It was over when this guy homered in the 1st inning.Uncle.As the state of Colorado fell asleep late in the night, the Colorado Rockies were busy losing another game in San Francisco. The Rockies dropped Wednesday night's game 7-1, forcing them to win on Thursday afternoon to avoid the four-game sweep. With the season long over, it was an easy decision for most fans to flip the TV off on Wednesday night. Tyler Chatwood got in trouble in the 1st inning, allowing the first two batters to reach base. With Pablo Sandoval at the plate, Chatwood made a great pitch three inches off the plate and four inches off of the ground. With a half swing, Sandoval somehow made contact, sending the ball down the right field line. Amazingly, the ball hit  the foul pole, giving the Giants a 3-0 lead before the Rockies had recorded an out. With Matt Cain on the hill for the Rockies, the game was essentially over. Cain rarely gives up runs, and hasn't lost a game in which his team gave him more than ...

De La Rosa returns to the mound for Colorado Rockies, lose anyway

Jorge De La Rosa made his return to the mound on ThursdayThe Colorado Rockies got perhaps their best news of the entire 2012 season. Jorge De La Rosa, out since the end of May 2011, made his return to the mound. As good as it was for the Rockies to get De La Rosa back, it didn't end up as good as what the club was hoping. The lefty was removed from the game after giving up six...
THAT'S USING HIS HEAD

Dexter Fowler's helmet breaks up double play

Colorado Rockies center fielder Dexter Fowler used his head, literally, to break up a double play after a throw by San Francisco Giants shortstop Brandon Crawford deflected off Fowler's helmet during Tuesday night's MLB game at AT&T Park. It happened in the top of the sixth inning with Fowler on first base. Rockies batter Charlie Blackmon grounded to second baseman...

Rockies’ Jorge De La Rosa to bring sanity to rotation

Denver, CO. The Colorado Rockies will look to bring some sanity back to the starting rotation with the return of Jorge De La Rosa Thursday against the San Francisco Giants. Following Tommy John surgery, De La Rosa has had a slow recovery but will make the first step back to the team. Throughout his recovery there have been many set backs and frustration for Jorge. Initially the Rockies...

Video: Dexter Fowler gets drilled in the head during double play attempt

Your browser does not support iframes.Well, this is one way to break up a double play. Unintentional or not, Colorado Rockies outfielder Dexter Fowler manages to disrupt a twin killing by using his head -- literally. The play happened in the top of the sixth inning during the Rockies-Giants game in San Francisco Tuesday night. What amazes me is the fact that Fowler shows no ill effects...

Typical night for Rockies' Rosario: homer, defensive miscue

There have been two familiar sights with Colorado Rockies rookie catcher Wilin Rosario -- trotting around the bases after another home run and scampering toward the backstop for a ball he should have caught. Rosario did both Tuesday night as the Rockies lost 6-3 to the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park. Colorado has lost four straight after beginning the current road trip with...

De La Rosa's return provides some hope for Rockies

. Left-hander Jorge De La Rosa made his long-awaited return to the Colorado Rockies on Thursday, pitched better than his line would indicate and, being a proven winner, offers more tangible hope for 2013 than any rookie. De La Rosa took the mound for the first time since May 24, 2011, when he tore the ulnar collateral ligament in his left elbow. He underwent Tommy John surgery...

Five-game road skid pushes Rockies to 90-loss plateau

The Colorado Rockies are limping toward the finish. A 7-1 loss to the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday was Colorado's fifth consecutive defeat. It's the second time this month and this season the Rockies have lost five straight games on the road, the other being Sept. 5-9 at Atlanta and Philadelphia. Colorado lost Saturday and Sunday at San Diego before losing the first...

Dexter Fowler Takes Double Play Ball Off The Head

Let’s start off by saying this: Dexter Fowler takes this like a champ! When trying to breakup a double play in a game against the Giants, Fowler slid in a little higher than normal. The end result was a relay throw to the top of the head. Shortstop Brandon Crawford slung the ball at full velocity and hit Fowler square in the head. Now this has nothing on the Brandon McCarthy incident...

Three Is A Magic Number

Led by a resurgent Pablo Sandoval (who homered twice), the Giants’ lineup tagged Colorado pitching for nine runs today. Despite allowing double-digit hits, Barry Zito and company were able to limit the Rockies to two runs on the afternoon. Thus, the Giants completed a four-game sweep. The Dodgers lost 4-1 to the Nationals tonight, meaning the Giants’ magic number currently sits...

Giants' Sandoval has heated up ... finally

San Francisco's Pablo Sandoval, the NL's starting third baseman in the All-Star Game, had eight home runs at the break. He had none afterward. Until Wednesday, when he homered after 161 homerless at-bats. His first since July 8. More than two months ago. He remained the No. 3 hitter because manager Bruce Bochy was faithful with the Panda, knowing he homered 23 times last...

Giants 9, Rockies 2

Pablo Sandoval hit a three-run homer and a solo shot, and the NL West-leading San Francisco Giants reduced their magic number to clinch the division to four by beating the Colorado Rockies 9-2 on Thursday. Buster Posey also connected for the Giants to back another strong start by Barry Zito (13-8) as San Francisco completed a four-game sweep. Zito won his fifth straight decision...

Sandoval's two homers help Giants complete sweep of Rockies

SAN FRANCISCO -- If there was any question whether Pablo Sandoval's power stroke on Wednesday was a blip on the screen he proved on Thursday it was no fluke in the first inning. Then he did it again three innings later. Sandoval hit home runs from each side of the plate for the first time in his career as the Giants completed a four-game sweep of the Rockies with a 9-2 win...

Sandoval Would Prefer If You Called Them Pleasantly-Plump Trippers

Yesterday, Pablo Sandoval hit two homers, and his third in two days to bring his season total to 11.  The other day when Alberto Callaspo hit his 10th homer, I went into our Fantasy Baseball Player Rater to see who had been more valuable this year, Alberto Callaspo or Pablo Sandoval.  First rule of Fantasy Baseball Player Rater Checking, if you’re looking to see how a player...

Giants 7, Rockies 1

Matt Cain pitched eight solid innings to earn his career-best 15th win, Pablo Sandoval homered for his first time in two months and the San Francisco Giants moved another game closer to clinching the NL West title with a 7-1 victory over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday night. Sandoval's three-run shot in the first inning off Tyler Chatwood (4-5) was his ninth homer of the...
