Holiday Greetings to all!  Here is my Holiday Rant! The New York Mets have done nothing but trade the NL Cy-Young R.A. Dickey, which I thought was a much needed move here. We got back the possible Piazza-ish catcher the Mets have lacked over the years.. The Mets also have a immediate future of   Wheeler, Niese, Harvey, Syndergaard, Gee which looks good.  But now the Mets in 2013 need at least a fifth starter... The trade of Syndergaard looks good even though made inappropriate comments, his talent much warranted.. Scouting Report: The towering Syndergaard spent all of 2012 in A-level Lansing, striking out 122 batters in 103 innings while racking up an eye-opening 1.08 WHIP. The move to New York means he's no longer a sleeper candidate, and now that he's an NL talent, he's even more appealing.  When this imposing righthander arrives, it'll be thanks to the plus command he shows with his decent 94mph fastball and near-plus curve. Of course, as with any you...

Dickey's farewell message to fans

Reigning Cy Young Award winner R.A. Dickey was recently traded to the Blue Jays, so he wrote a farewell message to Mets fans.

Leading Off for the 2013 Mets… Jordany Valdespin?

The Mets have not added a starting OF yet this off-season, unless you count Collin Cowgill, and with options dwindling, it looks like the Mets will have to look inwards for a lead off hitter, especially if the Mets bring in an OF that is a slugger not an on-baser. That means the Mets realistic options for lead off hitters for 2013 are: - Ruben Tejada - Kirk Nieuwenhuis - Collin Cowgill...

Christmas wishes for the 2013 Mets

The Mayan Apocalypse has come and gone and the world is still here, which means it’s time to start Christmas shopping. No doubt lots of you want to leave coal in the stockings of everyone related to the Mets but let’s at least give the players something that they really need. With that in mind, here’s what I think these guys need for the upcoming year: Mike Baxter – A RH...

Keith Law, Sal Fasano, FanGraphs On Travis d’Arnaud, Park Factors, Defense

Keith Law of ESPN answered a couple of questions about the Mets new catching prospect Travis d’Arnaud during his weekly chat this week. Q – Do you see Travis d’Arnaud continuing at catcher longterm, or do the Mets need to think of him in the outfield or first base (possibly trading or moving Ike Davis). If he can stay healthy and at catcher, the Dickey trade was a no-brainer...

Despite Interest From Yankees, Hairston Prefers A Return To Mets

Updated by HoJo on 12/23 Wallace Matthews of ESPN New York, reports that  while the New York Yankees remain interested in free agent Scott Hairston, he would prefer to return to the Mets where he believes he’d be able to log significantly more playing time. Hairston has been holding out for the Mets since the season ended, but they must be far apart on dollars or a reunion would...

Mets Minors: Looking ahead to the 2013 MLB Draft

The Mets are drafting 11th in the upcoming 2013 draft.  We have no shot at getting a compensation pick and I think I’d rant for days if Alderson jeopardized a pick by signing the wrong free agent.  So let us look at some of the names that may linger around through 10 picks to fall to the Mets. Players like Mark Appel, Ryne Stanek, Austin Meadows, Sean Manaea, Austin Wilson and...

Some Christmas Cheer From The Mets Blogospehre

Yes, even us die-hards take a break from the everyday rigors of writing about those not-always so Amazin’ Mets. Why some of us even like to poke some fun and use humor as a way to ease the pain a little. A few such bloggers did just that and are worthy of mention on this frigid eve before Christmas. Alderson Gives the Gift of Hope Those guys at the Real Dirty Mets are up to their...

Thoughts On The Jefry Marte For Collin Cowgill Trade

Last Tuesday, the Mets obtained outfielder Collin Cowgill from the Oakland Athletics for minor league infielder Jefry Marte. Honestly, I knew very little about Collin Cowgill and decided to do some research on him to quench my curiosity. Here is what I was able to learn about him as well as some input on Jefry Marte as well. My first stop was to Baseball America where I was hoping...

Coming to grips with the Mets’ 2013 payroll

Now that the R.A. Dickey and David Wright questions have been answered, the Mets can move on to other business.  But before we can get into specifics, let’s go back and look at one of the most fundamental questions there is as far as team building: What’s the available payroll for 2013? After last year, when fans were lied to repeatedly over what the actual payroll was going...

Mets in hot pursuit of Capuano and Harang

The Dodgers have been heavily shopping Chris Capuano and Aaron Harang ever since the Winter Meetings. Their efforts have no doubt increased after the signings of Greinke and Ryu. The New York Mets appear to be the most serious pursuer, according to Ken Davidoff. The Dodgers are highly favored to deal at least two of the Ted Lilly, Capuano, and Harang trio. I don’t anticipate...

Mets Talking To Saunders, Marcum And Pavano

According to Marc Carig of Newsday, the Mets are now kicking the tires on Joe Saunders. He reports that they are still discussing Carl Pavano and Chris Young, as well as Shaun Marcum. Saunders would be a nice addition to the Mets rotation, and could easily slot into the number four or five spot. He has a career record of 78-65, and was solid for the Orioles this past season, pitching...

R.A. Dickey pens bittersweet farewell to the team and city that gave him a 'chance'

R.A. Dickey pens bittersweet farewell to the team and city that gave him a 'chance'

Forget You, RA Dickey

So if you had not heard by now, RA Dickey took the time to write a farewell message to the Mets fanbase recently. Being a humble and classy man, he was met with emotional goodbyes and people wishing him well. You would be hard pressed to find any fan out there had a negative opinion of Dickey. I have had some time to think about the whole thing…and I have come to a conclusion on...

Rumor Mill: Mets still looking for Starting Pitching

Well, the Mets who were in pursuit of starting pitching after the departure of R.A. Dickey have lost out on Francisco Liriano to the Pittsburgh Pirates for big bucks considering. The Mets were hoping to land the big lefty on a one year contract.. So now the Mets are continuing their ongoing search for a fifth starter. The Mets according to Marc Carig of New York Newsday are in pursuit...
