MVN:
I would say I was stunned when I saw Wandy hitting at the top of the 7th with the Astros leading by barely 1 run because Wandy looked to me as if he'd thrown his last 3 good pitches to get Phillips at the end of the sixth.
And I was right - he started Rolen off with 3 balls, got a gift strike from the ump, then things went from bad to worse. Rolen walked and Gomes doubled. Gervacio strikes out the next pinch hitter, then stupid Coop tells Gervacio, who has a zero point 7 ERA, to IBB the next guy.
This is what loses baseball games. So freaking stupid I can hardly talk about it. WHY put an extra man on base then take your second best reliever out of the game??????
WHAT IS THE FREAKING POINT OF THAT???
So naturally, the pinch hitter - Coop is stupidly obsessed with the leftylefty thing - jeezus GAWD how freaking many times do I have to write that - drives in Wandy's 2 runs. Why, WHY is Sammy Gervacio not allowed to face leftys???? This is not Jesse Orosco age 45 who couldn't get out a righty if you blindfolded the batter. Then he has to bring in yet ANOTHER reliever to finish off the botched job.
He shouldn't have sent Wandy back out and the stupid insistence on the IBB to someone besides the #8 guy to get to the pitcher, or, say, Albert Pujols has backfired AGAIN. He should get fired because of the IBB stupidity all by itself.
At the end of the year, I swear I am going to go back through every single game log and see what happened with every single IBB which was not to the #8 guy to face the pitcher or to Pujols with first base open.
And you know that this team has already used up its miracle this year by beating Coco Cordero back in April and that dude is a major Astro killah.
And I guess that pointing out how lousy the Astros did with MOB would be a waste of breath. Bourn got on second base twice with 1 out and nobody drove him in, TWICE. And Clank getting picked off second base?
BAH
If I had season tickets, I'd sure be telling the Astros that if Cooper and gang, including pitching and hitting coach are not replaced, that I am boycotting. I'm tired of this crap, I really am. I am tired of watching hitters swing at crap out of the zone and GIDP. I am tired of the attitude that walks are for sissies and "aggressive" - meaning grounding out - is wonderful.
BAH
Roy is on tomorrow. I think. Depending on his back. Which is think is sore from his having to hold it so stiffly to keep from kicking more than a few asses on the team.
He faces Kip Wells, who we know very well from Pittsburgh, St. Louis, Cololrado and now the Reds. The guy is amazing - hasn't had an ERA under 4.5 since 2003, yet he persists and keeps managing to get work. I really admire that, I really do. Sort of the Neifi Perez of pitching. Now, just watch - he'll pitch a shutout in spite of the fact that at the GAB, he has a 5.66 ERA/1.83 WHIP/.286 BAA over 47.2 IP...
