Elmer Dessens keeps quietly going out there, making quality relief appearances and keeps making cuts. Dessens and Calero are the last non-roster relievers in camp, not including Takahashi who's in the running for the rotation or longman role.Dessens has appeared in six games, 5.1 innings with a 1-0 record and a 1.69 ERA. He pitches to contact, as evident by his one strike out and five hits in those six games but his control is solid as he hasn't allowed a walk. Last seasons Dessens made 28 appearances, after being called up in which he had an ERA of 3.31, WHIP 1.04; 24 hits, 12 runs, 10 walks and 14 SO. Prior to being called up, he had taken over closing duties from Eddie Kutz who was struggling. In Buffalo he posted a ERA of 2.31 in 27 appearances, including 11 saves.
