Another Cubs Blog:
I never even considered this, but John Perrotto hints that it is possible. It's only a one liner, but Perrott claims that "Greg Maddux and Kosuke Fukudome are both in danger of being left off the playoff roster". This was included in Perrotto's weekly article on Baseball Prospecuts under the NL Rumblings and Grumblings section.
Fukudome is leading off today, but he's also in a lineup that includes Casey McGehee manning 3rd base, Micah Hoffpauir in left field and no regular starter in the lineup. Lou has made it clear he's not impressed with Fukudome, but would he leave him off the playoff roster? My guess says no, but it just might depend on how Fukudome does the final week of the season. He certainly hasn't done anything to deserve being considered for the roster except defensively and I'm just not sure that's a big enough reason to keep him over someone who might be able to contribute offensively.
It will be interesting to see who makes the roster as there are a few spots that are up for grabs that will be determined this week. It will also be interesting to see what happens with Fukudome this offseason. He isn't going to be the starting right fielder next year.
Fukudome just doubled to right center and even Bob Brenly hinted that Fukudome isn't a lock for the playoff roster. Bob said something about it being a good thing for Lou and the Cubs if Fukudome can start swinging the bat as it would give them the left handed batter they want for the playoffs. This is going to be really interesting.
