News started to trickle out yesterday that Red Sox starter Josh Beckett might be on the market. Apparently, the Red Sox are listening on the 32-year old, but not actively shopping him. The usual suspects (Braves, Rangers, and Dodgers) have all called to express interest in Beckett. Beckett's career in Boston has been erratic (to say the least), and he hasn't thrown 200 innings in a year since 2009. The injury prone Beckett has never struck out 200 hitters in a season (even in his younger years, or when he was throwing 200 innings for the Sox). Despite a 4.57 ERA this year, he's not pitching any worse than he did last year, when his ERA was 2.89. His FIP last year was 3.57, while this year, it's 3.52. Much like in 2010, Beckett is getting screwed with a sub-70% strand rate this season,  One major warning flag for the Red Sox is Beckett's velocity, which has dropped of this year to an average of 91.7 mph, when it's never been below 93mph over the cou...

Red Sox Trying to Trade Beckett

Over the weekend,  the Red Sox inquired...

Sox looked to deal Beckett, Ellsbury, and Shoppach to Rangers

The trade deadline ended without a bang from the Red Sox. The biggest deal of the day for the Sox was the acquisition of Craig Breslow for Albers and Podsednik. We all waited for something to happen with Josh Beckett and a lot of us were bummed to find out he would be on this team for the foreseeable future. This morning, WEEI's Rob Bradford wrote that the Red Sox looked to deal...

Boston's Beckett leaves game with back injury

BOSTON -- Red Sox pitcher Josh Beckett wasn't dealt out of Boston, but he may be gone for a while after leaving Tuesday's game against Detroit with back spasms.. Beckett, who has been a major disappointment this season and has drawn most of the fans' distaste for the club's mediocre season, walked off the mound to slight boos after pointing to his back following...

Sorry That You’re “Stuck” With Beckett

The MLB trade deadline passed and the Red Sox will be holding on to arguably the most hated athlete in Boston, Josh Beckett. There was speculation that Beckett may be traded to either Texas or Atlanta yesterday, but Globe writer Nick Cafardo reported yesterday that Sox G.M. Ben Cherington decided not to move the struggling pitcher. Now, for all those members of “Red Sox Nation”...

Report: Red Sox won't trade Beckett

The Boston Red Sox will not trade pitcher Josh Beckett before Tuesday's trading deadline, ESPNBoston.com's Gordon Edes reported Monday night. The team most interested in Beckett was the Texas Rangers, but with Beckett owed more than $36 million on the remainder of his contract, including $15.75 million each of the next two seasons, the Rangers apparently lost interest,...

Beckett leaves with back injury in Red Sox's rain-shortened win

BOSTON -- A rain-shortened comeback win against the reigning American League MVP, and suddenly the Boston Red Sox have a little streak going. Just when fans wanted Josh Beckett and others gone at the trade deadline, the Red Sox are making a slight charge. The Red Sox took advantage of a subpar night by reigning MVP Justin Verlander, beating the Detroit Tigers 4-1 Tuesday in a...

A Win, A Loss, & A BIG Question

THE WIN - The Red Sox won their 4th consecutive game last night, a strange 4-1 victory over the Detroit Tigers at Fenway Park that wasn't without a little drama. For starters, Josh Beckett looked as good as he's ever been...at least through the first 8 betters. With two outs in the top of the 3rd, though, he gave up an infield hit, hit a batter, and then issued two straight...

Beckett, Sox Booed As They Win Fourth Straight

It was an ugly night at Fenway Park as boos and rain poured down equally hard upon the field. The target of the boos was Josh Beckett, who has become, fair or not, the symbol of everything that is wrong with the Boston Red Sox. Beckett was removed from the game in the third inning after feeling back spasms. As he left the field, the fans remaining at the soaked ballpark booed loudly...

Your Morning Dump...where it could be a quiet day

Every morning, we compile the links of the day and dump them here... highlighting the big storyline. Because there's nothing quite as satisfying as a good morning dump. The Boston Red Sox will not trade Josh Beckett before Tuesday's 4 p.m. deadline, a team source said late Monday night. And while the club fielded numerous inquiries about the availability of outfielder Jacoby...

Clayton Mortensen pitched 2 2-3 shutout innings after Josh Beckett left with back spasms and the Boston Red Sox beat the Detroit Tigers 4-1 in a game halted by rain in the top of the sixth inning Tuesday night. Trade Deadline: No big splash from Sox

As always seems to be the case, there were a lot of rumors flying around about what the Red Sox might do at the non-waiver trade deadline yesterday.  Most of these scenarios involved major deals that included Josh Beckett, Carl Crawford and others, but the Sox settled for two smaller deals. By not making a major move, the Sox can spin the idea that they feel the team is talented...

Trade rumors: Headley, Choo and Beckett

Here's a running list of trade rumors around the Major leagues: – The Padres might wait until the winter to trade third baseman Chase Headley according to Buster Olney of ESPN. He says that the Padres aren't “far down the road in their Headley trade talks,” so they might wait until the off season when more teams would be involved. – The Pittsburgh Pirates are interested...
