OAKLAND, Calif. — Coco Crisp and Brandon Moss burned their former team again. Crisp tripled and scored the tie-breaking run in the seventh inning of the A’s 3-2 victory over the Red Sox on Wednesday at the Coliseum, while Moss homered and had three hits. A night earlier, Crisp drove in two of the A’s three runs, including thegame-winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. Moss had six hits and two homers in the series. “Playing against a team you came up with and team you played your first little bit in the big leagues with is special,” Moss said. “You want to do well, not out of animosity, but to show they did draft a good player.” Josh Reddick, another former Boston player, singled and walked on Wednesday. The A’s completed a three-game sweep of Boston, their first sweep of the Red Sox since May 2008. Crisp, who also singled on Wednesday, has hit .333 (24-for-72) over his past 19 games. “We’re all starting to find our groove now,” Crisp said. “We’re taking the

Even without veterans Bartolo Colon and Brandon McCarthy for stretches in the past month, the Oakland A's rotation has been just fine with a bunch of inexperienced arms. After a 3-2 victory over Boston on Wednesday, the A's have the best ERA in the league, at 3.43, and over the past 20 games, the team has allowed two runs or less 13 times, putting up an ERA of 2.35 in that...
OAKLAND, Calif. — Coco Crisp burned his former team for the second day in a row.The outfielder tripled and scored the tie-breaking run in the seventh inning ofthe A’s 3-2 victory over the Red Sox on Wednesday at the Coliseum. A nightearlier, Crisp drove in two of the A’s three runs, including the game-winningsacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. The A’s completed a...
Brandon Moss has hit 10 homers in 24 games with the Oakland A's -- and he's in a platoon at first base. Moss, who was the AL Player of the Week last month after hitting five homers in a four-game span, is now sharing time with rookie Chris Carter -- at least through the All-Star break. The A's then must assess if they want a longtime top prospect such as Carter to remain...
When Oakland A's left-hander Brian Fuentes lost his closer role to Ryan Cook last month, he went from working almost every day to almost not at all. Some of that was because of an ankle injury that cost him more than week, but manager Bob Melvin also couldn't quite find roles to put Fuentes in with Cook as closer and with so many other left-handers performing well in the...
Oakland Athletics minor league coach Todd Steverson has been banned from the dugout for a year by the California League for instructing his pitchers to intentionally balk players to help end an extra-inning game last month.
Steverson, filling in as manager for Class A Stockton at Modesto, had run out of pitchers in a June 23 game that Modesto won 7-6 in 18 innings - a 5-hour, five...
My, how times have changed. Years ago, the Oakland Athletics were known as one of the most patient teams in baseball, almost to the point of frustration. Their hitters were known for waiting out pitchers, often times taking strikes to see more pitches and work free passes. It was a philosophy that was apparent from the big league team on down through the minors. Other teams, however...
OAKLAND, Calif. -- Brandon Moss drove in the tying run with a single, and Coco Crisp hit a sacrifice fly to center field to win it for the Oakland Athletics, who they rallied for two runs in the ninth inning Tuesday to beat the Boston Red Sox 3-2. In his first start since June 17, Oakland's Bartolo Colon pitched six innings, allowing five hits and two runs (one earned). Jordan...
He did it. David Ortiz hit career home run No. 400 on Wednesday, tying the game against the Oakland A's. Ortiz turned on a fastball from starter A.J. Griffin and sent it screaming into the right field seats. That moves Ortiz into 49th place all-time, ahead of Andres Galarraga and Al Kaline, with Duke Snider next with 407.
I've had it with Aceves as the closer. I understand the pickings are slim, but there has to be another option. This time he gave up two runs in the ninth, the second coming off a Coco Crisp sac-fly to beat the Sox, 3-2.
The Red Sox offense was kept relatively quiet tonight, with the Sox getting runs on a Salty homer and A's error. That was pretty much it. Oh, they went 0...
The 2012 season has produced mixed results for some of the Oakland A's top pitching prospects thus far, with some taking big leaps forward, while others have struggled. We spoke with A's minor league pitching coordinator Gil Patterson about several of the A's top pitching prospects, including Sonny Gray, A.J. Cole, Raul Alcantara, Dan Straily, A.J. Griffin, Ian Krol and more...
Oakland's Tommy Milone has been outstanding at home. If he can continue his dominant pitching there, he should have a good chance to get the surging Athletics back to .500 for the first time in six weeks.
Milone and the A's open a three-game series Friday night against the Mariners, who should be very happy to temporarily leave the spacious dimensions of Safeco Field.
The Red Sox must be looking forward to getting back to Fenway. After a rough series against Seattle, the Sox were swept by the A's on Wednesday thanks in large part to some contributions by former Red Sox outfielders Coco Crisp and Brendon Ryan. It was a busy day for former Sox outfielders in general, with Darnell McDonald claimed by the Yankees as well. NESN Nation's Dan...
The Boston Red Sox lost this one on a botched bunt that turned into a costly double play.
Two base running blunders in the top of the ninth kept the Red Sox from adding on against the Athletics, who rallied in the bottom half and won on Coco Crisp's game-ending sacrifice fly in Oakland's 3-2 victory Tuesday night.
Nick Punto popped up his bunt, first baseman Chris Carter...
