According to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports, the Chicago Cubs have agree to a 2-year deal with former Mets outfielder Scott Hairston. #bbpBox_294283721765433344 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_294283721765433344 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Sources: #Cubs in agreement on two-year deal with free-agent outfielder Scott Hairston, pending physical. about 1 hour ago via Tweetbot for MacReplyRetweetFavorite @Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal Photo by Michael G. Baron While full details are not yet known, it looks like Hairston finally gets the guaranteed second year he was seeking.  With Chicago it looks like the 32-year-old lefty-basher is likely to platoon with Nate Schierholtz, another Cubs free agent acquisition, in right field.  Last week Mike Puma of the New York Post  wrote that the Mets had balked at giving Hairston a 2-year deal and were only offering one year and $2 million.  Hairston hit a career-high 20 home runs while playing out a $1.1 million contract last season with New York and had reportedly requested  a 2-year/$8 million contract. It remains to be seen if the Cubs met Hairston’s financial demands or if the promise of a second year and more playing time was the deciding factor.  It’s hard to imagine the Mets not being able to make room for a guy who hit 20 homers in 377 at-bats when you consider that the team’s current options in the outfield consist of  Lucas Duda, Kirk Nieuwenhuis, Mike Baxter, Collin Cowgill and Andrew Brown, but that’s their story and they’re sticking to it! #bbpBox_294293771175219200 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_294293771175219200 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } @Ken_Rosenthal reporting Hairston is signing w/Cubs. Club source insists reason Mets hadn’t re-signed him was “playing time, not money.” about 1 hour ago via webReplyRetweetFavorite @NYDNHarper John Harper Fans have to hope that something bigger is in the works, but only time will tell. #bbpBox_294294032664891392 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_294294032664891392 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } In other words, Mets continue to believe they are going to acquire an OF that would have impacted Hairston’s playing time. We’ll see. 59 minutes ago via webReplyRetweetFavorite @NYDNHarper John Harper There were a myriad of Michael Bourn rumors floating around today, but as far as the Mets go I’m not sure how much traction there could possibly be.  The team would have to give up their first round pick (#11 overall) if they signed Bourn and the 30-year-old free agent outfielder’s demands appear well beyond any price tag the Metsecutives have come close to approaching in recent years.  There will be a time for them to shift the way they approach free agency, but I highly doubt that Michael Bourn is the guy that creates the paradigm shift. #bbpBox_294291988830896132 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_294291988830896132 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } Either way, one person familiar with #Mets doubts team will meet Scott Boras’ price for Bourn. “Zero chance,” he said. about 1 hour ago via Tweetbot for MacReplyRetweetFavorite @Ken_Rosenthal Ken Rosenthal #bbpBox_294291984024227840 a { text-decoration:none; color:#0084B4; }#bbpBox_294291984024227840 a:hover { text-decoration:underline; } #Mets hold No. 11 pick – and first that is unprotected.
