Found December 19, 2012 on Cub Reporter:
Jon Heyman (and others) are reporting that the Cubs have signed SP Carlos Villanueva, formerly of the Toronto Blue Jays. The 29-year old swingman ran up career highs in innings (125.1) and games started(16) last year for the Blue Jays. Depsite a fastball that won't get over 90 too often, he manages nearly 8 K/9(7.8 to be exact) for his career and a 3.1 BB/9. He's a bit prone to the long ball with a 1.3 HR/9 rate for his career (although his HR/FB% rates are a little higher than the norm) and has a 4.26 career ERA between the Brewers and Blue Jays over 7 seasons (306 games, 56 of those started). Much like the addition of Scott Feldman, he's being applauded by many of the saber-folks as a good low money risk play this offseason. We'll see what the money is in this case, but seems like another shrewd, yet unspectacualr move for the Cubs. I don't know if he's been promised a rotation spot, but more likely he'll just be one of the competitors for a spot in spr...

A person familiar with the situation tells The Associated Press that the Chicago Cubs have agreed to a four-year, $52 million contract with right-hander Edwin Jackson. The Cubs will be the eighth team in 11 years for the 29-year...

Edwin Jackson signs with Cubs for four years, $52 million

Edwin Jackson has chosen to sign with the Chicago Cubs. Four-years and $52 million are pretty good reasons. Multiple teams had interst in the 29-year-old but yesterday the bidding was between the Cubs and Texas Rangers. In Chicago, Jackson will join a staff that includes Matt Garza, Jeff Samardzija, Scott Feldman and Travis Wood. The team also has Scott Baker who should return in...

Toronto Blue Jays acquired an ace

Just when you think the Toronto Blue Jays were done with their reeling and dealing they surprise their fans again. After weeks of speculation, the Jays acquired this year’s National League Cy Young winner, R.A. Dickey last night.  If this doesn’t convince you that the Blue Jays are trying to get into the postseason since 1993, then I don’t know what will. I’ve wrote countless...

Amazin Mess: Leaving Dickey Out Of 2012 Highlights Video Is Insulting To All Of Us

R.A. Dickey’s Cy Young Award and 20 wins don’t count as  highlights as far as the official Mets 2012 Highlights video is concerned. That is how Andy Martino of the Daily News puts it  In a video posted this week on the Mets official website, and emailed to fans, the team sent along holiday wishes, and presented a brief montage of highlights from the 2012 season. It was all...

A day later: Reflecting on the R.A. Dickey trade

Build a new foundation now, or keep up with “Proven Crap?”  That does seem to be the eternal debate when it comes to Met fandom in midst of horrendous down years.  It was heard during the down fall of the Worst Team That Money Can Buy run, it was heard after the spending spree of 2002, and the debate has been heard today in the days before the R.A. Dickey trade was announced...

Sandy Alderson Gets His Man… And Then Some

Patience is a virtue.  That certainly applies to the patience of Mets GM, Sandy Alderson, who once again proved his critics wrong this weekend when he secured a windfall of popular prospects from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for reigning Cy Young Award winner, RA Dickey, and his personal catchers, Josh Thole and Mike Nickeas.  In doing so, Alderson waited out both the starting...

Blue Jays the Early Favorites to Win World Series After Picking Up R.A. Dickey

The Toronto Blue Jays are the early favorite to win the World Series after an offseason that has seen the top choice change several times so far. First the Detroit Tigers were the 2013 World Series favorites at Bovada. The Tigers have had a good offseason so far, signing former Angels outfielder Torii Hunter and re-signing pitcher Anibal Sanchez, the No. 2 free-agent hurler on the...

Newly Acquired Mets Prospect Noah Syndergaard Upsets Fanbase With Anti-Gay Slur

This is not a good way to greet a new team. Thanks to the attention from being included in the Blue Jays - Mets trade for pitcher R.A. Dickey, Noah Syndergaard, his Twitter account has gotten much more attention. One tweet, posted December 9, is one that would have many...

Two Pitcher Redemption

I think George Carlin said it best: “I’ve never ****** a 10, but one night I ****** 5 twos” Which, you know, might be the perfect way to describe the Cubs 2013 rotation. The Cubs have handed out contracts to Edwin Jackson (4yrs, 52MM) and Carlos Villanueva (2yrs, 10MM), rounding out a rotation of not great but not quite awful starters. MLB Depth Charts projects the starting...
