Chicago Cubs righthander Matt Garza avoided arbitration by agreeing to a one-year deal on Friday to remain with the club.
Financial terms were not disclosed.
Garza posted a 10-10 mark with a 3.32 ERA and 197 strikeouts in 198 innings in his first season with the Cubs.
