The Chicago Cubs announced today that they have signed closer Carlos Marmol to a three year deal, worth $20 Million. Marmol is set to earn $3.2 million 2011, $7 million in 2012, and $9.8 million in 2013. Marmol’s deal also includes a limited no trade clause.

In the end, I think this was a good deal for both sides involved. As Marmol took less money in 2011, leading him to get paid $9.8 million in the final year of the contract. For the Cubs, they now avoid the last two arbitration years, as well as the first year Marmol would have been eligible for free agency.
