Cubs right-hander Ryan Dempster has been placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right quadriceps.
Chicago also recalled outfielder Tony Campana from Triple-A Iowa on Saturday.
Dempster (0-1) was scheduled to make his fourth start Sunday against the Reds. He has allowed only three earned runs this season, but the Cubs have scored just three runs while he's been in the game.
Chicago will recall right-hander Randy Wells to start in Dempster's pace Sunday. Wells was 1-0 with a 9.42 ERA for Triple-A Iowa in three starts. Wells made 23 starts for the Cubs last season and was 7-6 with a 4.99 ERA.
Campana hit .304 with eight stolen bases in 14 games for Iowa.

Nick Cafardo was the first to report that the Cubs and Red Sox are working on a deal to send Marlon Byrd to the Red Sox. It would also make sense of the earlier roster move today where the Cubs called up Tony Campana to put Ryan Dempster on the disabled list since they still need to lose a body to make room for Randy Wells tomorrow.

According to MLB.com, the Boston Red Sox have acquired Marlon Byrd and cash from the Chicago Cubs in a trade. The Cubs receive Michael Bowden and a player to be named later. Byrd and Bowden are not household names, but at least these teams are trying something. Byrd is a centerfielder with a career .278 ave.,
