Considering he's a pending free agent that has reportedly been asking to get out of town, there has been speculation that Carlos Marmol could part ways with the Chicago Cubs in the near future. However, Marmol assured reporters -- including Carrie Muskat of MLB.com -- that he's "not going nowhere."
“I’m not going nowhere,” Marmol said. “I’m very happy here.
I can’t wait until they do something so I can stay here. I always talk about
how I love Chicago, I love being here, I love my teammates, I love everybody
There was a report yesterday in which someone stated they heard Marmol say he wanted out of Chicago in order to make a fresh start elsewhere. However, Marmol said that he doesn't know the individual who tweeted the rumor or why he would do so.
Considering Marmol's role has been changed this season, there could be some tension between he and the Cubs. Still, Marmol only has himself to blame for the demotion, as Chicago gave him an opportunity to claim the closer role earlier this season. Instead of doing so, Marmol's posted an ERA of 5.40 with a whopping 1.800 WHIP over 17 appearances.
