There’s really nothing to say about this game. Ted Lilly pitched another good game. He allowed 3 runs in 7 innings and that should be good enough. Unfortunately the Cubs bats were silent. The 1-2-3 hitters (Soriano, Fukudome, Lee) were a combined 1-11. The 4-5-6 hitters (Fox, Hoffpauir, Soto) were a combined 2-11. In fact, the Cubs 1-5 hitters were a combined 1-19. Soto was 2-3 with a walk. That’s about all you can say. The Brewers are about to win and put the Cubs 4.5 out, and 3 back in the loss column. The Cubs still have a shot, but the odds of winning the division get smaller by the day. Milwaukee has a sizable advantage over the Cubs at this point. It’s probably something the Cubs won’t be able to erase. The Wild Card is probably a possibility, but who gives a **** about the Wild Card? In other “news” the Cubs may be close to acquiring the Padres Heath Bell. I put news in quotes because it’s a rumor and it’s a pretty bad one at that. Ace has the details on the rumor here.
