The Chicago Cubs have signed outfielder Albert Almora, the No. 6 overall pick in last month's draft. The 18-year-old Almora played prep baseball at Mater Academy Charter in Hialeah Gardens, Fla., and had considered going to the University of Miami. He will report to the team's minor league complex in Mesa, Ariz. Almora, who throws and bats right-handed, hit .603 with six homers, 34 RBIs and 24 stolen bases in 25 games for Mater Academy last season. He is the Cubs' second big signing this summer. Earlier they reached a deal with Cuban outfielder Jorge Soler.

The Chicago Cubs have signed their first round draft pick Albert Almora according to Jim Callis of Baseball America. Almora received a $3.9 million bonus from the Cubs.
