Found June 12, 2013 on MLB Injury News:
PLAYERS: Ian Stewart
TEAMS: Chicago Cubs
The oft-injured Ian Stewart is healthy but currently assigned to Triple-A.  He's clearly frustrated about playing in the minors, but Stewart let that frustration boil over on Twitter.  When Stewart essentially attacked the organization, he violated the loyalty clause of his contract, thus allowing the Chicago Cubs to suspend him. Stewart was asked when he thought he would be promoted back to the Cubs' 25-man roster.  He responded and let loose his frustrations in an attack on the organization that was not severe, but enough to hurt his wallet.  Hardball Talk quoted some of the tweets.  Stewart has since deleted his Twitter account.  Here was Stewart's response when asked about eventually being promoted back to the Majors: “Probably never,” the third baseman wrote when a Twitter follower asked him when he was going to be promoted back to the major leagues. “The Cubs are done with me,” Stewart continued. “There [sic] going to let me rott [sic] in AAA all season and then non tender me after. … I think (manager Dale Sveum) doesn’t like me and he’s running the show.” Stewart last played in the Majors in 2012 for the Cubs.  He was traded by the Rockies to the Cubs in 2011, played out the 2012 season with Chicago, then he re-signed a one-year deal with Chicago.  However, Chicago has kept him in Triple-A for the entire season.  And Stewart is not helping his case at Triple-A. Blogging for Susie In 39 games, Stewart is hitting just .164/.279/.345 with the Iowa Cubs.  That's not exactly how you earn a promotion back to the big leagues.  Overall in his Major League career, Stewart is a .232/.319/.417 hitter. Cubs suspend AAA infielder for tweets

The Chicago Cubs suspended Triple-A infielder Ian Stewart on Tuesday without pay for an indefinite period following his critical comments about the organization. Stewart took to Twitter early Tuesday morning to vent his frustrations. He has played the entire season for Iowa, the Cubs' top minor league affiliate. He is due to make $2 million this year. He tweeted: ''...

Should Javier Baez be promoted to AA?

Let me start by saying that I cannot answer this question. The Cubs have way more information than I do and I won't criticize them if at some point they choose to promote him. I won't criticize them if they leave him in High A. I want to talk about something specifically. It's a comment I often hear and believe I read yesterday (may have been something Myles wrote, but...

Jesse Hodges reached base four times on a double, two singles, and a walk, drove-in three runs, and scored another, and Jose Morales reached base four times on a double, two singles, and a walk, scored a run, and stole a base, leading the AZL Cubs to a 7-2 victory over the Boise Hawks this morning at Fitch Park in Mesa, AZ.  Kevin Encarnacion went 4-4 with three singles and a...

Chicago Cubs not getting notice in All-Star ballot

Travis Wood (photo credit: Brian Kersey/Getty Images North America) Is there a reasonable case in saying that the Chicago Cubs should have more players representing the team in the 2013 Major League Baseball All-Star game? Yes, the Cubs started off with a rocky April and early May; Yes, they are currently going through a losing streak in series wins; yes, they have struggling pitching...

Where Is Our Breaking Point as Cubs Fans?

I went to the game last night to see the big Cingrani vs. Garza matchup that, while not exactly the pitching porn of a Verlander vs. Darvish or Wainwright vs. Kershaw matchup, I had hoped it would be at least a Cinemax softcore pitching porn display.  Unfortunately, it ended up being more of a pitching snuff film from the Cubs side as Garza got bound, whipped, and violated repeatedly...

MLB 2013: Chicago Cubs’ Starlin Castro is MIA

Brian Kersey- Getty Images Once one of the hottest young prospects in the game, Chicago Cubs’ Starlin Castro has gone ice-cold through two and a half months of baseball. The career .290 hitter is now posting a .243 batting average, which isn’t even above the league average. His current wRC+ is a dismal 68, way off of his average of 100 per year. Things have gotten so bad for...

MiLB Check-in: Cubs Long-Term Sticks

Javier BaezPhoto Credit: USATSI Let me preface this piece by stating that none of these players should be owned in re-draft leagues, but all three should be owned in any and all versions of a keeper format. Without further adieu, notes on the top three batting prospects in the Cubs loaded system: Javier Baez, RHH SS – The 20-year old shortstop caught everyone’s attention during...

Cubs rumors: Chicago 'likely' to release Ian Stewart

Prior to his suspension, it was clear that Chicago Cubs infielder Ian Stewart wasn't happy with his role with the team. He may not have to worry about this role much longer, as Paul Sullivan of The Chicago Tribune report that the Cubs are "likely" to release Stewart. Cubs likely to part with Stewart. — Paul Sullivan (@PWSullivan) June 11, 2013 Chicago...

BS of the Day: 6-13-13

Hey, the Cubs decided to win today! This should be easy. Your Bright Spots: I'd be remiss to not start with this one: much-maligned Starlin Castro had a 3-7 day, including a 450-foot home run that the wind somehow knocked down into the ivy for a double. Even more than that, though, his at-bats looked really good today, and he seemed to be seeing the ball really well. Am I going...

Chicago Cubs Place RHP Zach Putnam On Disabled List

The Chicago Cubs have placed right-handed reliever Zach Putnam on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow soreness. Putnam, who had to leave Tuesday’s game due to the injury, is scheduled for an MRI so the extent of the damage can be assessed. This season for the Chicago Cubs he has pitched 3.1 innings, allowing 7 earned runs while striking out four. Armed with a 2.700 WHIP,...

BS of the Day: 6-12-13

Alright, let's find some sunshine through all the ****, eh? Your Bright Spots for today: Fairly decent day for the trade bait on the major league club: Nate Schierholtz was 1-3, with a home run that briefly gave the Cubs the lead. James Russell, after giving up a leadoff double in the eighth, got through Choo, Votto, Phillips, and Bruce without giving up a hit (though Phillips...

BS of the Day: 6-10-13

It's depressing being a Cubs fan lately. The offense is terrible, the rotation seems to be coming back to earth, Starlin Castro is mired in the worst slump of his career, the best bullpen arm we have is Kevin Gregg…it's not pretty. Given all this, it seems worthwhile to try and find something to be optimistic about, some glimmer of light at the end of this dark, dark...

Chicago Cubs, White Sox somehow hosted games in this fog (Video)

The Chicago Cubs and Chicago White Sox hosted games in some unusual weather elements on Monday night. Rain delays are common throughout the MLB season, but very rarely does fog invade a city to the point where player safety comes into question. The screenshot you see above is not one from a low quality camera [...]
