The Arizona Diamondbacks' struggles with the San Diego Padres this season have proved costly, but they're hoping it's not too late to turn things around. After a rare win over San Diego in this series opener, the Diamondbacks will go for their third straight victory Wednesday night when they continue this three-game set at Chase Field. Arizona (73-74) had lost eight of nine to the Padres since the beginning of July - including six straight at home - heading into Tuesday's contest, but won 3-2 to stay 4 12 games behind St. Louis for the second NL wild card. The Cardinals also won, and four other teams still sit between those two clubs in the standings. San Diego (71-77) had averaged 6.78 runs in the previous nine games in the series before running into Ian Kennedy, who allowed one run in eight innings.
