PHOENIX Chris Young was placed on the disabled list with a right shoulder contusion about 45 minutes before the Diamondbacks game against Pittsburgh on Wednesday afternoon.
The move was not unexpected after Young, one of the hottest hitters in the National League, ran shoulder-first into the left-center field fence while catching a fly ball in the fourth inning Tuesday night.
Young underwent an MRI on Wednesday morning after X-rays Tuesday night showed no broken bones.
Were hoping it is quicker rather than longer, D-backs manager Kirk Gibson said in his morning press conference.
The D-backs were hoping the MRI revealed a sprain of the AC joint at the top of the shoulder, but no other medical information was immediately available.
