The Diamondbacks scored one run while losing the first two games of the series, but led for good in the finale after Kubel's two-run homer in the second off Scott Feldman (0-6). Parra's three-run shot off reliever Tanner Scheppers capped a five-run sixth. Miguel Montero added a two-run homer in the ninth. Hudson (3-1) struck out a season-high seven without a walk only six days after the shortest start in his four major league seasons. He gave up six runs in 1 2-3 innings against Oakland in a game the Diamondbacks eventually won 9-8. Texas took a 1-0 lead when Elvis Andrus doubled in the first inning and scored on a single by Adrian Beltre. Hudson, 4-0 in six career interleague starts, then retired 16 of the next 17 batters. Rangers' Hamilton in hospital for intestinal virus

Texas Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton is in the hospital because he has an intestinal virus. The Rangers said Hamilton was being given fluids because of a virus going around in his family. He was expected to be released within 12-24 hours. Outfielder Leonys Martin was recalled from Triple-A Round Rock and in the lineup for Friday night's series opener against Houston. Martin...

Texas Rangers fan makes incredible one-handed catch of Josh Hamilton's flying bat (Video)

During yesterday's Texas Rangers/Arizona Diamondbacks affair, Rangers slugger Josh Hamilton lost his bat in the first inning while attempting to swing a pitch from Arizona's Ian Kennedy. The bat would reach that stands and one fan made incredible one-handed snag to pull it in: Your browser does not support iframes.

Matt Harrison is vastly underrated

Unlike a former Texas Rangers pitcher who was voted by players to be the most overrated pitcher in baseball, Matt Harrison might be the most underrated. And that includes his own team. Before the season started, he was not even a lock for the rotation after posting a 4.2 fWAR season at 14-9 a season ago. Why doesn't Harrison inspire respect for his pitching? Frankly, it is baffling...

D-backs notebook: Offense finds its stroke

The Diamondbacks broke out of a mini-offensive slump with another three-homer game Thursday, avoiding a three-game sweep in Texas in the process. After scoring only one run in the first two games of the series, the D-backs blew open an 11-3 victory with a five-run sixth inning, which was capped by Gerardo Parra's three-run homer. Parra has been a major contributor in the D...

Rangers tab Double-A RHP Grimm to start Saturday

The Texas Rangers plan to purchase the contract of right-hander Justin Grimm from Double-A Frisco to start Saturday night against Houston. The Rangers said Thursday that the promotion of Grimm for his major league debut and other corresponding moves will be made before Saturday's game. When Grimm is purchased, Texas plans to put right-hander Koji Uehara on the 15-day disabled...

D-backs notebook: Bloomquist grinds it out

Willie Bloomquist calls hitting "a battle every day." These days, he is winning. Bloomquist has hit safely in 17 of his last 19 games after doubling in the ninth inning of Texas' 9-1 victory Tuesday that stopped the Diamondbacks' winning streak at five games. More impressive than the consistency is the volume. Bloomquist has 12 multi-hit games over the same stretch...

Cahill too good for Halos, hot streak continues

ANAHEIM, Calif. Part one of the grand reunion played out Friday, when the Diamondbacks beat former teammate Dan Haren. Birthday boy Joe Saunders will attempt to make it 2-for-2 when he turns 31 on Saturday. And while Haren and Saunders, the principles in the D-backs' 2010 trading deadline deal, will take the mound within 24 hours of each other this weekend, Trevor Cahill ...

Rangers bring up prospect Olt

The Texas Rangers have brought up top hitting prospect Mike Olt and optioned utility player Brandon Snyder to Triple-A Round Rock. Olt's contract was selected Thursday from Double-A Frisco, where the corner infielder was hitting .288 with 28 homers and 82 RBIs in 95 games. Olt's homer total is tops in Double-A. Olt was prominent in trade speculation before Tuesday's...

Saunders faces former team in Anaheim

Arizona's Joe Saunders hopes his first start against his former team goes a bit better than Los Angeles Angels right-hander Dan Haren's did in the series opener. Saunders looks to help the surging Diamondbacks move over .500 for the first time in six weeks Saturday night in his return to Angel Stadium. In their first trip to Anaheim since 2001, the Diamondbacks (32-32)...

Harrison, Adams and Nathan hold Diamondbacks scoreless

Remember what I said about the rotation being a mess last night?  Yeah, well, apparently Matt Harrison took offense to that and decided to remind us all that he is not a mess. Tonight, Harrison was outstanding. That six-pitch first inning was just a taste of what we’d see the rest of the game.  He pitched 7.1 innings of six-hit, no-run baseball.  And he didn’t want to stop...

Ziegler, Putz and a Justin Bieber card go viral

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- What started with a fun tweet -- a picture of Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz holding a Justin Bieber baseball card -- has blown up. "The only thing missing Bieber himself," D-backs reliever David Hernandez said Friday afternoon. That may change, too. The D-backs players have floated the idea of inviting pop icon Bieber and his opening act, Carly Rae...

Diamondbacks 5, Angels 0

Trevor Cahill pitched three-hit ball into the eighth inning, Aaron Hill hit a three-run homer, and the Arizona Diamondbacks slowed the Los Angeles Angels' roll through June with a 5-0 victory Friday night. Jason Kubel had three hits and drove in an early run for the Diamondbacks, who earned their ninth win in 12 games and got back to .500 (32-32) for just the second time since...
