Yesterday I scored a season-high 52.91 points thanks to a fantastic outing from Clay Buchholz and homers from Paul Goldschmidt, Robinson Cano, Vernon Wells, and Bryce Harper. After almost four weeks of playing these FanDuel games I’m almost back in the black despite a recent stretch of very heart-wrenching defeats. At the the request (actually, it was more of a question) of one of our readers, today I’m going to give the 10-person, 50/50 games a try. I’ll pay $10 for my entry, and if I finish in the top five I’ll almost double up, taking home $19 total. We’ll see how I do in these over the next few days.Of course, you can also try FanDuel for yourself. Pick a team and leave your roster/thoughts in the comments section!Season ResultsWagered: $255 | Profit: -$7.50 | ROI: -2.9% | Avg. They’ve scored an average amount of runs this season, which is better than most people expected. However, as good (or average) as the Astros are hitting, they still strike out a ton. Dempster has 33 Ks in 24 innings this season, so while that rate will definitely go down this year, it won’t be going down today. Walks are an issue for Boston’s starter today, and Houston isn’t a very disciplined team. In short, this should be a near-20 point effort like the one Buchholz turned in yesterday.Miguel Montero ($3,100) — home vs. COL (Juan Nicasio)Montero hasn’t done much hitting this year, batting just .194 on the season, but he’s affordable at $3,100, gets to hit in Coors Field, and he has a homer in his four at-bats against Nicasio.Mike Napoli ($4,000) — home vs. HOU (Erik Bedard)Napoli has been better than advertised so far for Boston, driving in 26 runs in his 22 games with the team. He’s always hit well in Fenway, and that’s continued this season as he’s posted a .962 OPS in homer games this season. Today he faces the left-handed Bedard, and Napoli has always hit a little better against lefties (career .904 OPS). He’s just 3-for-15 (.200) in his career versus Bedard, but he does have two homers.Danny Espinosa ($2,300) — home vs. CIN (Homer Bailey)Espinosa has been disappointing this season, but he did go 2-for-4 with a double, a homer, and two runs scored yesterday. He’s a boom-or-bust player, but he averages more points than any other player in his price range and doesn’t have an overly tough matchup today.Josh Donaldson ($3,300) — home vs. BAL (Wei-Yin Chen)Donaldson is on a nice streak right now, tallying two hits in three of his last four games. He’s also walked five times to just one strikeout over that span with four runs and four extra base hits. His career .794 OPS versus left-handers is also 130 points higher than his mark against righties.Troy Tulowitzki ($4,600) — road vs. ARI (Brandon McCarthy)A premier bat against a struggling starting pitcher. No explanation needed.Peter Bourjos ($2,700) — road vs. SEA (Aaron Harang)Bourjos has hit safely in seven straight games and is batting .313 on the year with a pair of homers already. Harang is a washed up veteran who doesn’t scare me, so for the money this is a pretty solid matchup.Matt Kemp ($3,600) — home vs. MIL (Hiram Burgos)Kemp’s price tag keeps rising, but he’s hitting like his old self now and doesn’t cost anywhere near what he should. Burgos isn’t a very tough matchup, so here we get the potential of a top five option for the price of a top 20 one.Bryce Harper ($4,400) — home vs. CIN (Homer Bailey)It was either Harper or Mike Trout, and I elected to go with Harper at home against Bailey versus Trout on the road in Seattle. Harper homered yesterday and is one of the biggest threats for a 15+ point effort, so hopefully he’ll deliver on some of that promise today. He’s been doing it for most of the season.
