There was no Daily Friar yesterday as I was making my way back to San Diego from Peoria. I had a great time taking in Saturday’s game and seeing some people all excited for the new season to start. Sunday the Padres played the Angels and Diamondbacks in split squad action, which both teams wound up losing. Yesterday they came back together and took on the Cubs, which also resulted in a loss. Clayton Richard had a rough outing as he gave up five runs on seven hits. What is nice to see at this point in spring is that the starters are seeing longer outings. Clayton pitched 6 2/3 innings yesterday and the game that I saw on Saturday Tyson Ross pitched 5 1/3. The bright spot of yesterday’s game was the bullpen held up and allowed no runs in their 2 1/3 innings of work. Tommy Layne pitched the 1/3 and Huston Street and Luke Gregerson each had an inning.
