Carlos Carrasco got the win for the Indians yesterday limiting the Pittsburgh Pirates to one run, four hits and a walk while striking out four. Carrasco is having an incredible June posting a 1.95 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with 17Ks in 4 June starts. For the year, Carrasco has a 3.87 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP to go along with 49 Ks. Those numbers certianly make him rosterable in most formats. However, Carlos is owned in only 16% of Yahoo! leagues, far below Trevor Cahill, Tim Hudson, Max Scherzer, Mat Latos and a bevy of other well-known pitchers with much higher ownership percentages. Is this a mistake?
His solid ERA and WHIP are supported by peripheral numbers. While he is striking out only 5.6 batters per nine innnings, he is giving only 2.6 free passes per nine innings an has a terrific groundball rate of 50.6%. If Carrasco struggles from here on out, it won’t be because his BABIP or his strand rate regress to the mean.
