NEW YORK -- Daisuke Matsuzaka is resuming his rehab. After making four starts for the Red Sox -- in his return from Tommy John surgery -- Matsuzaka was placed back on the disabled list on July 3 with a nagging neck injury. This time, he's hoping the worst is behind him. Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said the hurler would start a rehab assignment on Monday in Pawtucket. It's the next step, considering Matsuzaka has thrown two bullpen sessions in recent weeks. "That would be a pitch-limited session, but he’s feeling good," Valentine said. "Right now, he’s throwing the ball...

Recap: Ciriaco comes through in 10th, leads Sox to series win

The Red Sox gave up more late-inning runs, but held on to win in 10 innings, 3-2. Pedro Ciriaco picked up only one hit and it was a big one, an RBI single in the top of the 10th that proved to be the game-winner. The Red Sox scored two runs in the 2nd inning via a Ryan Sweeney 2-run double. Felix Doubront did a great job preserving that lead until he surrendered a solo homer to...

Josh Beckett Needs to Take Advantage of Support, Show Red Sox He Can Help Team Beyond Trade Deadline

Josh Beckett is in a precarious spot in his Boston tenure. Ask Beckett and the Red Sox, and they'll say he's having a down year. Ask analysts and fans, and you'll get a mix of groans, criticism, confused shakes of the head and mentions of last year's clubhouse atmosphere. Another word they like very much lately is "trade." The bottom line is this: Beckett...

Josh Beckett 'Absolutely' Wants to Stay With Boston, Views Trade Talk as 'Made-Up Fodder'

Josh Beckett is happy right where he is -- as a member of the Boston Red Sox. The pitcher addressed trade rumors on Friday while speaking with's Rob Bradford, and Beckett made it clear that he wants to remain with the Red Sox. "Absolutely," the righty said of his desire to not be traded. "But if people don't want you, you don't want to be there...

Ciriaco comes through for Red Sox again

Infielder Pedro Ciriaco did it again. Ciriaco delivered the game-winning hit Sunday night, a fisted blooper into shallow right field to score Jarrod Saltalamacchia in the 10th inning and give the Red Sox a 3-2 victory over the Yankees. But Ciriaco's presence in the lineup at shortstop had little to do with his recent hot streak or his go-ahead RBI triple in the ninth inning...

Jon Lester Alters Routine Between Starts, Has Batters Stand in During Bullpen Session

NEW YORK -- Coming off his worst outing of the season, Jon Lester elected to tweak his bullpen session. Before Wednesday's game against the Rangers, Lester tossed his scheduled bullpen with Pedro Ciriaco and Daniel Nava standing at the plate. The reason was for Lester to simulate an authentic sequence with batters, except these batters weren't swinging. "He threw the...

Clay Buchholz's Domination of Rangers Propels Righty to Second Consecutive Amica Pitcher of the Week Award

It has been a rough week for the Red Sox. Boston has lost six of its last seven games, and the primary culprit has been the team's starting pitchers, who have an 8.01 ERA in those seven games. To be fair, those games have been played against the American League's first-, second- and fourth-ranked offenses in terms of runs scored -- the Red Sox are third in that category ...

Red Sox Live Blog: Boston Tries to Take Series From Yankees, Get Back to .500 Mark Behind Felix Doubront

8 a.m. ET: It feels like the Red Sox (50-51) have been hovering around the .500 mark forever. On July 2 the Red Sox woke up five games over .500 and just 6 1/2 games back of the American League East lead. That represents the high water mark for the Sox in 2012, but they've also haven't been worse than six games below .500 since losing to the Indians all the way back on May...

Ortiz Set To Return Soon

According to a report from the Boston Herald, David Ortiz is eligible to come off of the 15 day disabled list on Wednesday, August 1st prior to a start against the Detroit Tigers.  The report also indicated that the Red Sox slugger participated in batting practice at Yankee Stadium on Friday night. This is a good sign for the Red Sox and Ortiz’s fantasy owners.  Ortiz is having...

Red Sox need to make a “baseball decision”

Ben Cherrington needs to make a baseball move for the fans to come back on board It’s getting increasingly difficult to be a fan of the Boston Red Sox, not just because the team is struggling on the baseball field but because it feels more and more every day that the Boston Red Sox ownership group doesn’t care about the fan. This week told the whole story. The Boston Red Sox...

Dear Red Sox GM Ben Cherington

Dear Ben Cherington, If there is one message that you need to get out of this letter it’s this: Grow a pair. Seriously Ben, it is time for you to man up and grow a pair. Everybody in Red Sox Nation thinks that you are nothing but a puppet for the Three Stooges higher up [...]

Redsock Nation rejoices: WALLY IS SAFE

Last night's victory over Boston rang hollow, shadowed by the stark reality that no Redsock could be expected to hit with his eyes full of tears. Their Wally had been removed - stolen, excised, amputated, torn from them. And no one knew where his Wally was.I watched in Darwinian disbelief that the game was being played. It should have postponed, or cancelled, or forfeited...

Red Sox Get a Little Luck on Their Side in Series-Tying Defeat of Yankees

Editor's note: is going to tell the story of the 2012 Red Sox in Bobby Valentine’s words. Each game day, we will select the best Valentine quote that sums up the day for the Red Sox. Curtis Granderson may be a step or two below the caliber of a gold glover at this stage in his career, but he's still a lauded-enough center fielder to have moved the fleet-footed...

Deja vu: Red Sox pull out last-at-bat win over Yankees

NEW YORK -- For the second night in a row, the Boston Red Sox blew an eighth-inning lead against the rival New York Yankees, only to win the game on a hit by Pedro Ciriaco in their final at-bat. On Sunday, it was a soft single to right with one out in the 10th inning, giving the Red Sox a 3-2 victory in the Yankees' first extra-inning home game this season. The hit capped...
